Sarah Palin scrambled away from the birther movement last night after giving them a wink and a nod on a conservative radio talk show yesterday. Posting on her Facebook page at 1:16am, Palin writes that, "at no point not during the campaign, and not during recent interviews have I asked the president to produce his birth certificate or suggested that he was not born in the United States." She tries to dismiss her birther flirtation as just an acknowledgment of voters' right to know: "Voters have every right to ask candidates for information if they so choose. Ive pointed out that it was seemingly fair game during the 2008 election for many on the left to badger my doctor and lawyer for proof that Trig is in fact my child."
Well ... three problems with her explanation.
First, here's what she said when asked if she would raise the birth certificate issue in a presidential campaign (emphasis mine):
I think the public rightfully is still making it an issue. I don't have a problem with that. I don't know if I would have to bother to make it an issue, because I think that members of the electorate still want answers.
The key word there is "rightfully," which in this context means that it is right--as in correct or proper--to ask the question. She didn't say that the public has the right to ask, she said that it's right for the public to ask. That's an Alaska-sized difference.

Huh?
So the public has the right to ask, but it isn't right to actually do it? That makes no sense. And I say that as someone that thinks the birthers are full of crap.
The problem with the birthers isn't that they ask. It's that they won't accept the reality of the answer.
And since when is it so terrible that a politician doesn't go out of her way to needlessly irritate some of her potential voters?
I hope she is because being herself is her best course of action.
I don’t think she needs much, if any advice about dealing with the media.
Your post is so good it deserves to be posted again. Pointing out the emperor has no clothes gets you lambasted.
“What I notice is how, if anyone mentions the birth certificate issue in public, the press will get right up in their faces. Are you suggesting he wasnt born in Hawaii? Most people in public life will then back quickly away, no, I never said that. I would never say that.
I dont know anything more than anyone else does. I just notice the dynamic. No one in public life dares to ask him for any information about his past. No one dares to ask him for any documentation. And anyone who does, gets a very sharp confrontation and they back quickly away.
Its almost just like the globwarm doubters have been treated over the last decade. You dont believe in global warming? Are you admitting youre a deniar? And they immediately start hemming and hawing. No, I never said that. Of course the earth is warming, everyone knows that.”
not that they are RIGHT to ask the question.
Fascinating. 0bama-like even. Please educate me on how this "nuanced" observation is not contradictory.
Because he’s a stinking marxist Obama cheerleader, just like 95% of the media
Just the media trying to make a stink out of nothing. Her statements look consistent to me, I am not even sure what they have the panties in a bind for.
It makes perfect sense. You have the right to go out in public wearing a green and purple striped shirt with crimson and blue polka-dotted pants, but it wouldn't be right to actually do so.
“not that they are RIGHT to ask the question.”
It’s never right to follow the Constitution. /goron
As of now we still have had no birth certificate produced by the Obama regime.
Steve, please do try to keep up with the facts of the matter rather then mindlessly screaming at everyone who is actually paying attention to the facts here.
But nothing is more infuriating than female strategy. Armed with her silken weaponry of ambivalence, circularity, and freighted silences, woman burrows into her adversary's very soul sideways, like a tick crossed with a mole crossed with a crab.
Funniest zap all week!
Because she is giving a credence, slight though it may be, to those of us who know Obama is marxist quisling fraud.
Just one of many flip, flops. LOL, nothing new move on.
Robert Schlesinger, LOL! What a scumbag!
The scared left will spin ANYTHING and make a mountain out of ANY molehill when it comes to their arch-nemesis, citizen Sarah Palin.
The MSM will spend more time questioning Sarah Palin’s comments on Obama’s eligibility than they will question Obama’s eligibility.
F*** the MSM - nothing but complicit liars and enablers.
Steve-b and other trolls are eunuchs. They don’t get boners.
Duh to you! The legal status of John McCain's birth was clearly addressed in the law way before the unnecessary need for Hearings was acted upon. The legal status was quite clear before and after the unneeded hearings on the matter.
Furthermore, the legal status of Hawaii was in transition because it just became a state in 1959, just before Obama's birth.
There were a number of ways to secure a birth certificate in Hawaii in 1961. The primary one is the long form that identified the hospital and attending physician. But if the child was not born in a hospital the applicant can make a declaration and secure an equivalent to the long form as a Certificate of Live Birth. The legal requirements for this avenue to acquire a Hawaiian Certificate of Live Birth were loose at the time.
Taking a look at the long form would clarify whether Mr. Obama was born in a hospital in Hawaii or elsewhere in Hawaii. Of course the possibility exists that a close relative could have secured a Certificate of Live Birth for Obama even though he was born elsewhere. We just do not know. We would like to feel assured that all is well and in order in this case. That still would not answer whether Mr. Obama is a natural born citizen; his father was a British citizen, clearly not born in the USA.
I am an admitted birther and Palin supporter, and PROUD of it.
I KNOW Obama is not an article II natural born citizen
I believe Obama’s short form birth certificate is a forgery
I believe it is likely he was born in Kenya
I believe it is likely he isn't even a US citizen
I believe it is possible he is involved in fraud involving social security numbers and properties
I believe it is possible the Smith Kenyan birth certificate is real
I believe it is possible his draft registration document has been altered or forged
I believe it is possible the Obama machine is involved in the death of Donald Young
I believe it is possible Obama was involved with Larry Sinclair
I believe it is possible that Obama is as close to being a Manchurian Candidate as you can get
I believe Obama is evil
If this makes me a “kook”, so be it. Just waiting for Obama to PROVE me wrong.
You got it.
You are referring to Tina Fey not Sarah Palin. Are you a paid Obama operative?
