Climategate Used to Settle 'Vendetta,' Says Mann
AccuWeather ^ | 2009-12-02 | Carly Porter, Gina Cherundolo and Katie Fehlinger

Posted on 12/02/2009 11:45:33 AM PST by ricks_place

Michael Mann, Penn State University meteorology professor, said Climategate is an attack on man-made global warming scientists.

"I think it is unfortunate that some scientists out there are using this situation to settle personal scores, to settle a vendetta," Mann said, in an exclusive interview with AccuWeather.com's Katie Fehlinger.

Mann said that the e-mail leak happened just in time for the Dec. 7, 2009, United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, where world leaders, including President Obama, hope to come to an agreement on a framework for future international climate change mitigation.

"It is not a coincidence... that this event happened in the weeks leading up to the summit in Copenhagen," said Mann. "They've taken scientists' words and phrases and quoted them out of context, completely misrepresenting what they were saying."

Despite skepticism, Mann insisted that global warming is real.

"My main interest right now is to make sure that this manufactured controversy does not distract policy makers," said Mann.

Even though I know it is not practiced these days, I thought the job of a news reporter was to ask questions of someone and not just let someone tell their side of the story.

Here are three people from ACCU Weather who I would assume are degreed in journalism or a weather related area and they fail to ask Mann: “Mike, what about all of that raw data that was destroyed?” “What do you have to say about that?”

Instead these ACCU Weather journalists put together a press release for Mann. Or it could well be that Mann sent them this press release he had prepared and these dutiful idiots at ACCU Weather published it.

Michael Mann in an Exclusive
Interview with AccuWeather.comMichael Mann, Penn State University meteorology professor, said Climategate is an attack on man-made global warming scientists.

“I think it is unfortunate that some scientists out there are using this situation to settle personal scores, to settle a vendetta,” Mann said, in an exclusive interview with AccuWeather.com’s Katie Fehlinger.

Mann said that the e-mail leak happened just in time for the Dec. 7, 2009, United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, where world leaders, including President Obama, hope to come to an agreement on a framework for future international climate change mitigation.

“It is not a coincidence... that this event happened in the weeks leading up to the summit in Copenhagen,” said Mann. “They’ve taken scientists’ words and phrases and quoted them out of context, completely misrepresenting what they were saying.”

Despite skepticism, Mann insisted that global warming is real.

“My main interest right now is to make sure that this manufactured controversy does not distract policy makers,” said Mann.

Ultimately, Mann feels that scientists are not holding climate change data back from the public.

“The community is doing a good job at putting the data out there... there really is nothing to hide,” Mann said.

Phil Jones, director of the Climate Research Unit (CRU) from which questionable global warming e-mails were leaked, temporarily stepped down from his position yesterday to allow investigation to continue without disruption.

Mann protected his work and the work of his peers as Penn State launched an investigation into what critics call a fabrication of global warming data.

“Phil Jones is a very honest scientist,” Mann said. “He was probably talking about getting rid of measurements that they didn’t consider reliable.”

Penn State is conducting an inquiry into Mann’s possible role in the controversy, as reported by The Daily Collegian.

Sen. James M. Inhofe (R-Okla.) is asking the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works to hold hearings on the Climategate matter.

Eduardo Zorita, scientist at the Institute for Coastal Research, is calling for Mann, Jones and others to be banned from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) process for the review and publication of climate change data.

“The scientific assessments in which they may take part are not credible anymore,” said Zorita.

Marc Morano, climate change skeptic and executive editor of ClimateDepot.com, agrees.

“Mann has been dogged for years about his scientific work. Climategate exposes his glaring weaknesses as a scientist,” he said in an e-mail to AccuWeather.com.

AccuWeather.com’s Katie Fehlinger hosts “Headline Earth,” a weekly video series that reports climate change current events and issues.

Michael Mann is an embarrassment to science. He had his co-conspirators were the ones with a vendetta - against the sceptics! He was more than willing to prostitute his scientific responsibilities to push a destructive and horribly expensive global warming agenda, against plenty of evidence to the contrary.

I sincerely hope that he’s stripped of his scientific credentials and does some jail time. The magnitude of what’s being attempted by the global warmers and environuts is both staggering and contemptible. We are, after all, talking trillions of dollars and the future of the US economy.

"Phil Jones, the director of the CRU and the man at the heart of climategate. According to one of the documents hacked from his center, between 2000 and 2006 Mr. Jones was the recipient (or co-recipient) of some $19 million worth of research grants, a sixfold increase over what he'd been awarded in the 1990s."

Gravytrain indeed.

That claim just cracks me up. The context of fraud has been demonstrated so many times that by now it’s settled science — the debate is over! :-0

Mann’s audacity is breathtaking. But then, audacious pretty much sums up the entire climate fraud.

When you sit and think about this...there probably isn’t a law that you could really put against the guy. You could terminate him from the University for false publications but that likely won’t happen. It would be nice to see him denied any government funding for any research project from this point on, if he is guilty of false publications.

I think the Michael Mann that created Miami Vice has a better grasp of reality and science than the Gaia-worshipping climatolist Michael Mann does.

Meanwhile, as Mann tries to lie his way out of the current unpleasantness he is facing, Google is now reporting 21,100,000 hits for Climategate.

This thing is going crazy. There were like 19 million hits but a couple of hours ago.

But then, maybe Google is doing a GOOGLEGATE on us making us believe we are making a lot of noise when it is not really happening at all.

Global warming is not real. This crowd made big bucks off the scam.

If it were real they would have been screaming to save the hydro-electric dams in California. They would have been screaming to replace coal plants with nukes.

But no, all they did was collect millions and go to catered luncheons.

These bastards belong in jail.

When he set into motion a plan to take over the control of all energy in the United States through Cap and Trade,

People said it didn’t matter.

When he finally completed his transformation of America into a Socialist State, people finally woke up......... but it was too late.

Any one of these things, in and of themselves does not really matter. But.... when you add them up one by one you get a phenomenal score that points to the fact that Obama is determined to make America over into a Marxist/Socialist society. All of the items in the preceding paragraphs have been put into place. All can be documented very easily. Before you disavow this, do an internet search. The last paragraph alone is not yet cast in stone. You and I will write that paragraph. Will it read as above or will it be a happier ending for most of America? Personally, I like happy endings.

Never before in the history of America have we been confronted with problems so huge that the very existence of our country is in jeopardy. Our biggest enemy is our President and a contingent of politicians in Washington DC.

Does anyone else find Mr. Mann's protestations of innocence vaguely reminiscent of Richard Nixon's "I am not a crook" speech?

Didn't he have some missing data as well? That's the killer, you don't destroy the data if you think you are right. The data is your best weapon against your critics. If you destroy the evidence you have as much as admitted guilt.

Mann and his compatriots will never do time. To do so would mean the Democrats would have to admit they were wrong. Instead they will simply go away. The only hope is that the climate data destruction scandal will be enough to stop Obama from passing Cap & Tax. And that I'm not sure of.

Remember that a lot of those hits are people repeating each other on their blogs, or articles reprinting syndicated feeds, or reposts and references within sites, so not all of it is original content. However, yes, it is spreading.
