TIGER'S CHURCH IS CLOSING ** John Ziegler **

First Church Disbands, This Web Site Set to Expire

j.zielger

After several days of evaluation, I have decided to disband the First Church of Tiger Woods (as indicated by the graphics at the top of this web site) and I will not renew the TigerWoodsIsGod domain name when it expires in a couple of months. Any future commentary on this site (which may not happen at all) will be regarding Tiger’s failings in relation to his affair/accident debacle which continues to unfold almost by the hour.

Because the First Church of Tiger Woods has been in existence since late 1996 and this web site has been around since early 2000, you might think that such a decision might be difficult. In this case, it was not. Unfortunately, Tiger Woods has made it all to easy to realize that he is no longer worthy of any special admiration.

The events of the past few days have revealed Tiger to be a serial adulterer, a blatant liar, and a selfish coward. While I am sure I will always respect his ability as a golfer, that was only a very small part of why this much misunderstood web site was created and why it became such a big part of my life.

As I have documented in my columns below, Tiger is clearly no longer deserving of being seen as a role model or a hero and he has needlessly squandered his unique potential to be a positive force in our country and the world. While I am relatively sure that Tiger will make a comeback from this sad episode and that there will be great moments for him in the future, I personally am done with Tiger Woods and I doubt that I will even care very much about whatever else he might achieve on the golf course (for someone who once vowed to make sure he lived until he saw Tiger get to 19 major championships, I have a hard time believing I can write those words with such ease).

For the record , here are a list of Tiger’s “sins” that make it impossible for me to continue with this web site.

He has had multiple affairs with sleazy women while married to the mother of his children and he has, to this date, not told the truth about them.

He has lied about the circumstances surrounding his accident in an arrogant and insulting fashion.

He has bailed on his own tournament and foundation just to shield himself from the media and lied about why he was doing doing so.

His silence to the police and the public has been an embarrassment to his fans and leaves us with no rational choice but to assume the very worst about what the truth really is.

In the end, this situation, like much of life is all about expectations. To whom much is given, much is expected. No one has ever been given more than Tiger and therefore our expectations for him were also unprecedented. He has failed to live up to those expectations and he has shattered a sacred trust that cannot be repaired. Therefore, Tiger Woods now has at least one less supporter. I am quite sure that I am not alone.

Hmmm.
Someone needs to come up with some type of “booty-call credit trading” scheme sort of like the “carbon credit” scheme of Algore’s.

Celebrities who just cannot keep it zipped, buy credits from those of us who have more willpower. That little monetary incentive will keep us strong and more able to remain faithful. In the end, there will be more families intact because more of us resisted temptation.

I’ve never understood the deification of Tiger and always thought the praise lavished on him was disproportionate. He’s a golfer, OK, the best golfer ever. But the way sportswriters would trip over themselves to extol his virtues made him sound like a combination of Martin Luther King, Jackie Robinson, and Arthur Ashe; he’s a great athlete, and no better a person than anyone else (and worse, in some respects). If you don’t buy the hype, you won’t be disappointed.

The Fall of Tiger Woods could start many Moral Debates!

He had everything people dream of! Talent, Family, Fame!

Now it’s time for him to get down on his knees
and realize he really had nothing.

A life apart from God and Jesus is empty.

Sex, money, toys: Just recreation for a lost soul.

It’s the eviction from paradise story again.

Had everything he ever NEEDED — you’d think.

Serpent’s appeal to his ego: “Why shouldn’t YOU partake? How can anything be forbidden to YOU?”

Very good analogy.

However Adam and Eve knew YHvH the creator of the universe.

Tiger Woods on the other hand has chosen to reject YHvH and His salvation.

. . . who made every game about Tiger . . . .

One of the first times I went to Sawgrass, in the early '00s, Tiger's name was on the leaderboard even if he wasn't leading. There was a special place for him at the bottom. But face it: Everyone there wanted to know where he was at. (I know I did.)

On a different note, I question the author's statement that Tiger has never been given more. Tiger, IMO, has earned everything he has by his own hard work and dedication.

However Adam and Eve knew YHvH the creator of the universe.

Tiger though not having their advantage was still a target for the serpent's appeal to ego, as are we all. I'd say he had more to lose materially than you or I, so his greater risk was sure to heighten his thrill and, thus, temptation. Don't judge him too harshly Uri’el-2012.

Tiger Woods on the other hand has chosen to reject YHvH and His salvation.

And he may still see Him out, thank the Lord. OTOH, those who are aiming to play god ("in matters of life and death"), our later day Nimrods, will have hell to pay. With God's help, it will be in this world in addition to the next.

Amen. The temper, the thug caddy, swearing, club throwing, fist pumps, etc. The idiots saying Tiger *is* Golf. I enjoy listening to Nick Faldo because he subtly (as they say inb the UK) “takes the pi*s” out of Tiger. Faldo won 2 or 3 British Opens and has been there.

Ditto Johnny Miller who shot a 63 at Oakmont to win the U.S. Open. Oakmont is insanely hard.

I hope he takes time off because I am looking foward to seeing 20-year old Rory McIlroy who seems to get better after each tournament.

Seeing Tiger’s antics makes me appreciate low-key guys like Sean O’Hair, Nick Watney and Lucas Glover even more.

RE: “Tiger was NEVER a role model. To anyone who saw him as one, you only saw what you wanted to see. You were deluded. Tiger’s fits of temper on the golf course told me all I needed to know about his character, and I didn’t like it. His swearing, his throwing of the golf clubs, his pumped-up fists of aggression... None of that was pleasant to watch. He changed the character of the game. What was once a sedate gentlemen’s game now became a testosterone-fueled pump-fest.

And boo to the sportscasters who made every game about Tiger, whether he was winning or not. We would tune in to see ALL our favorite players, but practically all we got to see was Tiger. You knew there were a dozen other players on the course... but where were they? They certainly weren’t being shown on TV. All the focus was on Tiger. They might as well have renamed each and every golf event on TV, The Tiger Show. After a while, you realize, why bother to watch; you’re not going to get to see anyone else.”

**********************

Your assessment is 100% absolutely right on the money. I have seen Woods at many tourneys in his short career and quickly became disillusioned thanks to his behaviors and his fans’ behaviors and the way the media fawned over him.
Enough! If I never have to see him on the tour again it will be fine with me. I hope Nike pulls the endorsements along with Tag Heuer and all the rest.

The guy is a total jacka** and not just because he cheated.

Oh and the Tiger fan boys screaming “get in the hole” at golf tournaments. Years ago - these idiots would have been ejected in a heartbeat.

I was enjoying watching Phil take Toger apart at Shanghai. I was thinking - this is great - the Chinese will not be screaming “get in the hole.” Well eventually I heard it.

Tiger attracted a lot of idiots like this who would also heckle other players. Witness Phil and Nick Watney on the final hole at Doral this year where they are neck and neck. Two really super guys battling it out. Phil is teeing off and some idiot after he hits the ball screams “get in t he water.” My guess is he was a Tiger fan boy.

Tiger Woods is a Buddhist

Doesn't Buddhism teach that material/physical desires are a trap?

A Buddhist in name only (aBINO), it would seem.

Agreed Joy.

He would have been, probably was, the target of temptation for a great deal of his life. Would it surprise you to find out that this all began when he started being prescribed pain-killers? The flesh is weak to begin with? how much weaker when “medicine” intrudes?

It’s not an excuse. It’s just that that possibility should server as another warning for us all.

Police: Woods at fault in crash, will get citation [Tiger Woods]

Maj. Cindy Williams, left, with the Florida Highway Patrol
speaks during a news conference concerning …

By MIKE SCHNEIDER – Tue Dec 1, 6:29 pm ET

ORLANDO, Fla. – Tiger Woods will be cited for careless driving in a car crash outside his Orlando-area mansion, but will not face criminal charges, the Florida Highway Patrol said Tuesday.

Woods faces a $164 fine and four points against his driver's license, not close to enough to have it suspended. The citation closes the investigation of last week's crash.

The patrol "is not pursuing criminal charges in this matter nor is there any testimony or other evidence to support any additional charges of any kind other than the charge of careless driving," Sgt. Kim Montes said.

According to an accident report, Woods crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant and a tree at 2:25 a.m. Friday. The airbags did not deploy and Woods' wife told Windermere police she used a golf club to smash the back windows to help him out.

Woods withdrew Monday from his own golf tournament, citing injuries from the crash.

Since the accident, tabloids and gossip Web sites have fueled speculation about the events leading up to it, including that there may have been a domestic dispute between Woods and his wife.

The crash came two days after The National Enquirer published a story alleging that Woods had been seeing a New York nightclub hostess, and that they recently were together in Melbourne, where Woods competed in the Australian Masters. The woman, Rachel Uchitel, denies the affair.

An attorney for the neighbors who dialed 911 after the crash said Woods did not appear to be driving under the influence and showed no signs of having been in a fight. Montes said there were no claims of domestic violence and insufficient evidence to subpoena any medical information.

"Despite the celebrity status of Mr. Woods, the Florida Highway Patrol has completed its investigation in the same professional manner it strives to complete each traffic investigation," Montes said.

Bill Sharpe, an attorney for the neighbors, said Woods' injuries were "consistent with a car wreck and inconsistent with him being beat up. The scratches on his face were consistent with someone who maybe was in a minor car accident and hit his head on the windshield. ... None of his injuries looked like he was beat up by his wife."

Sharpe said neighbor Linda Adams and her two adult sons went outside their home in the exclusive gated community of Isleworth after hearing the crash and Woods' wife, Elin Nordegren, asked them to call the 911 emergency number.

He said the neighbors found Nordegren kneeling beside her husband, upset about his injuries. Sharpe said Woods appeared woozy and had scratches on his face and that his wife was trying to console him. The Adamses wrapped Woods in a blanket and made sure he didn't move.

Tabloid speculation has focused on whether Woods and his wife were fighting before the accident.

"One thing we want to make clear is that Mrs. Woods' attitude was consistent with her being concerned about her injured husband," Sharpe said. "Mrs. Woods was trying to help him. Mrs. Woods was worried about her husband. She was concerned."

Sharpe said the Adams family did not see the crash and did not see Woods' wife with a golf club. He said he was hired to get the message out that the Adams family members have told investigators everything they know about the crash and aren't hiding anything.

By skipping his tournament, Woods will escape the TV cameras and a horde of media seeking more details. The tournament was to be the last of the year for Woods anyway, and he did not say when or where he would make his return next year.

When healthy, he has made his season debut at Torrey Pines every year since 2006. The San Diego Invitational this year is scheduled the week of Jan. 25. That could mean Woods avoids the media for 10 weeks.

Neighbors in the exclusive Isleworth community said Tuesday they did not know if Woods was home. There were no cars in his driveway as the highway patrol held its news conference, and there was little sign that any accident had taken place — the fire hydrant Woods struck had either been repaired or replaced. The grass was perfectly trimmed.

The complex's private security force patrolled the plush community in marked cars and golf carts, the primary source of transportation around Isleworth.

Tiger Woods' Statement: Full Text

I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.

Although I am a well-known person and have made my career as a professional athlete, I have been dismayed to realize the full extent of what tabloid scrutiny really means. For the last week, my family and I have been hounded to expose intimate details of our personal lives. The stories in particular that physical violence played any role in the car accident were utterly false and malicious. Elin has always done more to support our family and shown more grace than anyone could possibly expect.

But no matter how intense curiosity about public figures can be, there is an important and deep principle at stake which is the right to some simple, human measure of privacy. I realize there are some who don't share my view on that. But for me, the virtue of privacy is one that must be protected in matters that are intimate and within one's own family. Personal sins should not require press releases and problems within a family shouldn't have to mean public confessions.

Whatever regrets I have about letting my family down have been shared with and felt by us alone. I have given this a lot of reflection and thought and I believe that there is a point at which I must stick to that principle even though it's difficult.

I will strive to be a better person and the husband and father that my family deserves. For all of those who have supported me over the years, I offer my profound apology.
