There is very little difference between democrats and republicans and the people get frustrated with that. On the surface they pretend they are different and quibble about things; but at the end of the day they both want the same stuff, bigger government. They might argue on how we grow it but they all want it to be bigger and the argument is :should the taxes be 38% or 32%? No one is talking about having them zero or ten percent. They argue about the trivial stuff, there is no substantial difference. The Republicans are making a big deal about opposing some of these bills that Obama is promoting. But if Bush was promoting them they would all be for them and democrats would be opposing them. Look at all the big government bills we passed with all the republicans that voted for them when Bush was in the White House.
What I want to bring to Republicans is something really different and show independents they can vote republican for something really different. When people run as Republicans and say Yes we want lower taxes. If they dont cut spending its all an illusion. Lower taxes mean nothing if you dont shrink government spending. If you just give us a deficit thats even worse because now we have to pay higher taxes in the future and interest or suffer inflation.
I want to go to Washington and NOT act like the other Republicans there and not compromise my position. Even if there are some philosophically well intentioned republicans who have been elected, once they get into the Washington culture they succumb to it. They like the job and the title and everyone is Yes Mr. Congressmen, Mr. Senator . They feel like they are royalty and like it and want to stay there. And they know how you stay here: You cozy up to the right people, you dont make waves, you do what the leadership says and you spend all your time raising money, and thats how they stay in Washington. Maybe they justify it with Well if I dont to this maybe someone worse than me will come in.

If you realize both parties in Washington think our money is theirs and you trust them to do the wrong thing, this list is for you.
If you think there is a Santa Claus who is going to get elected in Washington and cut a few taxes and spend a few trillion and jump start the economy, and get our lost money back, this list is not for you.

Jeeze I love it when he talks like this.
This is the power of the Tea Party movement. It is not partisan. All business as usual politicians are scorned - GOP and DEMS alike.
Although I supported Bush 100% on the WOT, I was VERY disappointed in his big government initiatives such as the education bill and shamnesty. The tax cuts were okay, but could have been much, much more. And Bush didn’t fight back. He let his opponents define him.
Since 2006, I’ve considered myself an independent, even though I remain registered as a Republican. I’m in a closed primary state. I haven’t given the GOP a dime for a couple of years.
Yep, he speaks my language, term limits.
“Since 2006, Ive considered myself an independent, even though I remain registered as a Republican. Im in a closed primary state. I havent given the GOP a dime for a couple of years.” Your not the lone ranger.
Too bad half the country is crazy, and are just unable to grasp that.
I love how he talks common sense. No BS. He just shoots straight.
The party insiders and party groupies, along with the easily led, will avoid this thread like the plague.
Great article.
Maybe it's late and they are asleep. Past posts of Schiff saying this has produced nasty replies.
I love it when Schiff talks this way(why I like Glenn Beck) , The freshman Republican congress of 1995 was so inspiring and hopeful :Dick Armey Majority leader. John Kasich, Sonny Bono. But by the Bush era 2001 they stood for nothing but get mine.
In 1995, when Republicans gained the majority in the United States Congress, Kasich was selected to become Chairman of the House Budget Committee. As Chairman, Kasich worked towards balancing the Federal Budget, and was the chief architect of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997. As Chairman of the Budget Committee, Kasich presided over the only U.S. Budget Surplus since 1969.[11]
lol..
Maybe moderators hid this post. Or Thanksgiving travel.
Schiff must be a libertarian. The libertarians posting on FR beat the same drum, the old Ross Perot “no difference between Dems and Repubs” line. I didn’t buy it when it came from Ross Perot, and I don’t buy it from Schiff. Third party divide and conquer. We don’t need third party, what we need is genuinely conservative Republicans.
Oh I see, ya mean like what the Republicans put up in the form of Bush and McCain?
Good grief....You people have beat this to death...No one buys this sh*t no more.
Good grief, man, you think Bush and McCain are “genuine conservatives?” You Libertarians don’t know the difference?
I didnt buy it with Ross Perot, but I buy it now. Why? GB senior left us with a great chance which led to historical win in 1994. GW Bush and his republican majority left us with a huge disaster which was cheer-led by Rush, Hannity, Levin. They (not so much Rush) even joined the McCain campaign saying vote Republicans or die.
Schiff is running in Republican primary, but yes, he is a libertarian conservative, contrary to neocons that got us here.
BTTT
I especially don’t buy it now. Things are much worse now than when Ross Perot ran. The very survival of this nation is at stake now. No time for divide and conquer games, in my opinion. With almost every election decided by razor thin margins, all Libertarians and third party types are going to do is split the vote and bring down this country.
Schiff is running as a Republican, and he’s been telling other proponents of small government not to run as third party, either, but to run as Republicans, like he is.
Can't you see the static threat of a potential Conservative Alternative bolt--a virtual Sword of Damocles hanging over them--is what could and would keep the RINO leadership structure in the national and statewide GOPs in constant fear and trepidation? How else precisely are you going to easily arrive at your "Conservative GOP" that you talk about with the Party structure and media in the bag for RINOs against us?
Abandoning any and all options for 2012 immediately emboldens the RINOs who screw us EVERY FOUR YEARS and then ask US to get on board THEIR train.
Nope.
Not buyin that picnic basket o' crap in 2012.
We get the platform AND the candidate we want in 2012. Otherwise, no deal.
