Thanksgiving was a tradition in the Colonization years in America BUT it was not celebrated in All colonies and towns and there was no set date. A thanksgiving feast was declared when a colony had a good harvest or completed a project. In other words they had a feast (and usually lots of prayer service) when they felt a need to give thanks to the Lord.

The Pilgrims had several such.

Lincoln (IIRC) made it an official holiday and it has been ever since.

I personally give thanks for all the good that has transpired across the years and generations that have made this country the greatest place on earth. And I will continue to pray for that future regardless the darkening clouds that gather over it now.
