Englewood saw two homicides this week, bringing its 2009 murder toll to 17 victims.
On Sunday, a 20-year-old man was found shot to death in the 500 block of West 58th Street, according to police information. The next day, a 21-year-old man was shot and killed about four blocks away.
This year, Englewood has seen 16 shooting deaths and one fatal beating, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
Fourteen of the 17 victims were male, 14 were under the age of 30 when they died and all victims were black, according to data from the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Citywide, the homicide death toll for the year surpassed 400 victims this month. As of Wednesday afternoon, there have been 418 homicide victims, including 11 victims of automobile crashes in which the driver was initially charged with reckless homicide, RedEye found.
This month, there have been 25 homicides, including a fatal car crash that killed two people in Greater Grand Crossing. The driver in that crash initially was charged with reckless homicide. Police logged 38 murders in November last year.

Seriously, the first thing I thought when I saw that headline was “That’s all?”
I listen to WLS radio on the internet out of Chicago, I would have imagined that number to be a lot higher judging from the news there.
There is only one solution to this problem.We must negotiate with the thugs. We must understand them and show compassion and give them money, lots of money. We need programs. We need social workers.
Send Code Pinkos there. After all, they know how to reach out to the Taliban, so the Chicago thugs should be no problem.
This is probably all caused by too many guns, umm no; Consevatives, umm no; Christians, umm no. Oh, I know, it’s the Amish again, right? Those darn Amish, such a violent group.
I heard gunfire here Monday night. A few weeks ago, a dead body was found under the porch of a neighboring house. This used to be a quiet, mixed race, blue collar, middle class neighborhood. Not anymore.
Government’s response to this will be to spend more money
on law enforcement and anti-proverty programs. Why don’t they just enforce the laws instead?
Hey! Don't sell the Obamessiah and Mrs Obamessiah short! I'm sure they were both "involved" at one time. I'll bet they both committed MORE than their share of crimes while they lived in Chicago.
Of course, due to the husband's unexpected job promotion, they are currently introducing the "Chicago Way" INSIDE the "Beltway". And, right now I am confident they are doing their part to contribute to the crime rate in our nation's capital.
I mean, sure, they'll have some "cathing up" to do once they return from their little adventure, but I bet they'll get right back to the "Chicago Way" IN Chicago, in very short order.

Sorry, Chicago. On a per-capita basis, Baltimore (a.k.a. Bloodymore, Murderland) beats you easily. There were 234 murders in 2008, and 202 as of 11/17/09. The population of Baltimore is only a little over 0.6 Million, roughly 10% of whom are heroin addicts.
This is awful! I think we as the American people need to help out and send BO BACK to his city in 2012 to stop this insanity!
We should all deluge him with contacts urging him to step down and go take care of his own home town. If anybody can unite the opposing parties I'm sure it's Barack Hussein 0bama, Community Organizer.

To be fair, it’s not a “black problem” only. As I said, I live in a mixed neighborhood. I think we have raised one or more generations with an entitlement mentality. They don’t want to get an education or work for a living. Much easier to shoot and rob someone. And even those who are educated are merely indoctrinated. They can tell you all sorts of things about global warming, but they can’t read, write, do math or even tell you who their congressperson is.
And we’ve let the criminal element get way out of hand. Sure, we can get more police on the streeet, but what good is it when these gangsters are back out doing whatever. I said once (long before the War on Terror) that we should send soldiers into the streets to clean up these hoodlums. Boy, did I get flak for being so cruel, heartless, unconcerned for their rights, etc. etc. I still think it’s a good idea. Round ‘em all up and throw the book at ‘em. And if they deserve the death penalty, give it to them. None of these endless appeals, bleeding hearts and the like.
