Obama urges Congress to put off Fort Hood probe (Obama's hiding something)

President Barack Obama on Saturday urged Congress to hold off on any investigation of the Fort Hood rampage until federal law enforcement and military authorities have completed their probes into the shootings at the Texas Army post, which left 13 people dead.

On an eight-day Asia trip, Obama turned his attention home and pleaded for lawmakers to "resist the temptation to turn this tragic event into the political theater." He said those who died on the nation's largest Army post deserve justice, not political stagecraft.

"The stakes are far too high," Obama said in a video and Internet address released by the White House while the president he was flying from Tokyo to Singapore, where Pacific Rim countries were meeting.

Army psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, was charged on Thursday with the shooting spree at Fort Hood last week. Army investigators have said Hasan is the only suspect and could face additional charges.

Obama will never let the investigators call this terrorism so maybe congress can at least get it labeled for what it is.

Who wants to make it go away more? Congress? Or the Army? I think it’s a toss-up. Both are highly culpable. As are the American people who have blithely succumbed to PC.

I want Congress to hold hearings ASAP.

The military court only has to prove that Hasan killed 13 people and that should not be very difficult to do.

The military court does not need to prove Hasan’s motive.

Let Congress be the court of public opinion that proves Hasan’s motives and in the course of those hearings shows the American public how political correctness in the FBI and Department of Defense led to the terrorist act.

I follow this AP reporter on twitter - and suprisingly with a handle like VRWCTexan he is following back - generally responds to my direct tweets / questions.

He appears to be a straight-up and fair reporter, as far as any MSM can be - so I’ll keep following up with him of this point

The fact that he would show such sudden concern for the military investigation the day after taking several admitted terrorists out of the military justice system tells you all you need to know about his real reasons for this.

The Congressional investigation is being pushed by the GOP, which is why Barry wants to stop it - he fears they might find out something, if only his connections (probably only indirect) with Hasan. The parts of it that needed to be secret would be, as much as they would be with the military investigation.

It’s all cover up. He knows he can run Genl Casey, but he’s not so sure about the GOP congressional members who are pushing for this.

If congress was sure to have the 0bama spin when conducting hearings, he’d be rushing them to start. He’s losing control of Congress. Of course to him, that only means there’s just one too many Congress Critters he doesn’t own, but he wants unassailable control.

In the words of Patton, "You Goddamn coward." (Not you tobyhill, Hussein).

As I've stated before, I hope someone runs against this punk in '12 that rides him like a government mule. Never ever get up off him until his name is spoken only in hell.

"The military court only has to prove that Hasan killed 13 people and that should not be very difficult to do."

Civilian prosecutors don't have to worry about something called "unlawful command influence", but military prosecutors do - and not only at trial, but on appeal also. As RetiredArmy points out, Congress should stay out of it, at least until the investigation is complete, and I would add until the trial is over as well.

While it may be politically expedient and beneficial to hold all manner of Congressional hearing, to say nothing of the probably embarrassment to Obama, Hasan's case will take years to resolve, with a final conclusion not coming until well after Obama has left office. We shouldn't take the opportunity to take shots at Obama, at the possible expense of justice for the victims in this case.

Thanks,
I hope there is more discussion about the legal issues that could arise should Congress start an investigation into Hasan.

What legal issues are of importance and what legal issues are not much more than periferal issues that do not matter.
