Obama Says He Would Be Honored to Visit Hiroshima and Nagasaki Friday, November 13, 2009
(CNSNews.com) Visiting the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki targets of a U.S. atomic bomb attack that hastened the end of World War II would be meaningful, President Obama said Friday in Tokyo.
I certainly would be honored it would be meaningful for me to visit those two cities in the future. I dont have immediate travel plans, but its something that would be meaningful to me.
In an interview with a Japanese network earlier this week, Obama said something similar: "The memories of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are etched in the minds of the world, and I would be honored to have the opportunity to visit those cities at some point during my presidency," he said on Tuesday.
Obama, at a joint press conference on Friday with the Japanese prime minister, also lauded the distant goal of achieving a world without nuclear weapons.

Bush and Cheney weren't there! They had traveled back to the June 8th 632 to assassinate Mohammad!

The “Mea Culpa” Tour continues to steam along.
Obama would be honored to be anywhere other then in the Oval Office of the White House where he might have to make a decision.
Yes and he should also visit Nanking where the Japanese committed “The Rape of Nanking”
...And Korea to visit the many elderly women who served as sex slaves to the Japanese during WWII.
The list, ping
... but not Berlin.
Apologizing for America's victory in the Cold War would be a bit too obvious.
I can’t wait to see him start apologizing as a third party. Couldn’t you see him heading to China next and telling them he’s sorry that the Japanese occupied them for all those years and chopped all those heads off and did bad things to their women?
This would give Obama the chance to make the apology of all apologies. Will this madness never end? And think we have 3 more years of this guy and his leftest friends.
My Stepfather recieved a purple as a marine in Okinawa. If he hears Obama apologizing, he will be devastated. I hope this does not happen. The veterans who fought so hard and saw many of their comrades fall right before their eyes, deserve better.
He wouldn’t go to the Berlin Wall, but he’ll take time out while the U.S. is in a war for a Blame America tour? He doesn’t hesitate for an opportunity for shaming, scolding, lecturing, and sermonizing if he can say something bad about the U.S. and go off on a guilt trip.
If I thought that Obama could go without playing the blame game, as he has on every other foreign trip, it might be OK. I could easily imagine George Bush going and genuinely showing his sympathy for those who died there, without apologizing for what was necessary at the time to avoid even greater loss of life—Japanese as well as Amerian.
But Obama is incapable of empathizing with anyone else. It’s all about how much he loves himself and how much he blames America. He couldn’t care less about the Japanese who died there, any more than he cared about the dead at Arlington Cemetery.
It’s him. He has a chip on his shoulder. Most likely resentment at the grandparents and his strange upbringing. Never misses a chance in this blame game. America gets attacked - “let’s not rush to conclusions.” Berlin Wall - he won’t go to honor to homor America’s, JFK’s, and Reagan’s legacy in defending freedom during the Cold War.
Hiroshima - well, now THERE’s an opportunity to apologize and blame.
Anyway when you go to a significant historic place, you are supposed to be humbled, not honoured - it's not about you.
THREAD BUMP.
Just think, if we had been fortunate enough to have a president like Obama in 1945, he could have simply bowed down before emperor Hirohito and asked him to cease the hostilities, and the war would have ended at that moment. The atomic bombs would have been unnecessary.
