On election night, Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman conceded defeat to Democratic candidate Bill Owens after dramatically under-performing in key counties and deciding that he couldnt overcome the gap. Today, the campaign is looking very closely at a recanvass of the district that has revealed, as recanvasses often do, screw-ups in the initial count. What was a 5,335-vote margin for Owens on election night is now a 3,026-vote margin, due largely to initial under-reporting of Hoffman votes in Oswego County and Jefferson County.
According to Mark Weiners report, the Hoffman campaign is leaving open the option of legal challenges if a recanvass goes Hoffmans way. I talked to Hoffmans spokesman Rob Ryan, who said the campaign is keeping its own count, and that lawyers have checked out the polling places that reported the bogus numbers. But he was bearish on the campaigns chances of a post-facto upset.
Its not something I would place a bet on, said Ryan. Even if the margin had been 3,000 votes on election night, we would have conceded. We just might have done it later.

A day late & a dollar short, I am afraid.
Typical democrat cheating. Mistakenly entered wrong numbers? Zero in some places? Come on, if anyone believes that, I have some pristine waterfront property to sell them.
Al Frankin comes to mind.
The problem is we know when to quit and how to bow out, the left does not, this is something we may need to work on.
You cannot fight the barbarians by simply being civilized, they must be enguaged in battle.
The lesson I draw is... “If you’re a conservative candidate, don’t concede on election night - wait for every last vote and certification”
He could do an Al Gore and unconcede :-)
How can Owens YES health care vote be counted if he wasn’t certified by the NY S.O.S.?
It’s obvious Hoffman was Al-Franken-ated.
Seems unlikely that Hoffman could make up the deficit. But that’s why I thought he conceded election night. Did someone tell him there is no way you can win, even if most of the absentees go your way? That’s why I figured he thought it was safe to concede. Perhaps an adviser should have said not so fast? Or maybe because he was not backed by a major party structure there was no one to clue him in on the intricacies of vote counting.
From the article:
Conklin said the state sent a letter to the House Clerk last week explaining that no winner had been determined in the 23rd District, and therefore the state had not certified the election. But the letter noted that Owens still led by about 3,000 votes, and that the special election was not contested two factors that legally allowed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to swear in Owens on Friday.
Sworn in legally. I guess this means that no matter who actually wins, the day of the health care vote will stand as is, as Owens was legally sworn in. Hoffman may be able to step into the seat, should the results turn in his favor, but, will this have any affect on the vote by Owens? I doubt it.
On another note, what clear thinking individual (this leaves out the left) is actually surprised by this turn of events?
There are 12,000 + votes to be counted. 3,000 vote swing is all it would take.
Also get rid of POS RINO/DIABLOs like Newt and Dede.
Further in this story, Hoffman’s people shared that they showed him winning a three person race.
It’s easy to conceive the other parties had similar info.
Scozza drops out, ending the three person race Hoffman needed.
Filthy, gutter politics, Chicago style.
Correction to my post 13. The quoted paragraph is from the article in NRO. Sorry.

Imagine that.
“Oswego, into the wild, blue Yonkers”
Probably, but I don’t want them conceding anything. Do the count.
