Lou Dobbs, the longtime CNN anchor whose anti-immigration views have made him a TV lightning rod, plans to announce Wednesday that he is leaving the network, two network employees said.
A CNN executive confirmed that Mr. Dobbs will announce his resignation plans on his 7 p.m. program. His resignation is effective immediately; tonights program will be his last on CNN. His contract was not set to expire until the end of 2011.
Well known for his political positions, Dobbs is an outlier at CNN, which has sought to position itself as a middle ground of sorts in the fractious cable news arena.
Mr. Dobbs met with Roger Ailes, the chairman of the Fox News Channel, in September. At the time Mr. Dobbs was viewed as a potential hire for the Fox Business Network. But a Fox spokesperson said Wednesday, We have not had any discussions with Lou Dobbs for Fox News or Fox Business.
Mr. Dobbs has been with CNN since its founding, save for a two-year stint at a Web site called Space.com. He has evolved over the years from a straight-laced business anchor to an outspoken commentator who rails against illegal immigration and taxpayer bailouts, among other subjects.

“Middle ground” my rosy red arse.
Yup, Lou is on now..
last broadcast, the last of the original anchors at Cnn
Maybe MSNBC will hire him.
/sarcasm
Is it fair, accurate, or helpful to describe him as “anti-immigrant”? Conflating illegal immigration with legal immigration isn’t ethical.
I like Lou a lot. He is strong in amnesty and illegal immigration. He is a straight shooter. I hope he goes to Fox. CNN is a scum channel with dying ratings. He is probably their only draw.
Something tells me that the CNN reaction to the Ft Hood shootings (e.g., anchors making excuses for Hassan) was the last straw for Mr. Dobbs.
..if it weren’t for Lou Dobbs, Compean and Ramos would still be in prison IMO...
If Fox News doesn't hire him, they are foolish. However, now knowing Obama has a scheduled interview with Major Garrett, Fox News could be heading in a direction that renders them questionable as a news source as well. Time will tell.
It sounds like he’s saying he was getting pressure from CNN to curtail some of his commentary, and he wasn’t having it. He didn’t say that, but that’s the feeling I got, especially when he was leading up to say that Klein had agreed to let him out of his contract.
There have been rumors of him going to Fox for quite some time.
He should co-host with Jerry Rivers — that would be hilarious.
A bold-face lie deserves bold-face font.
If CNN thinks this helps their credibility, they’re off their rockers. I hope that Fox News can eventually find a time slot for Dobbs, even if it’s only a weekend show.
AMEN!
The lines in the sand are being drawn. I do hope he joins Fox, it really is where he belongs.
Probably got tired of CNN Bosses crap
My final sign off if I were Dobbs.
This is Lou Dobbs saying goodnight America........

Could they possibly by more biased?
‘I will not insult your intelligence by asking you if you actually believe what you just wrote!’ (to paraphrase the late William F’Buckley)
Should we write and ask if CNN will be in violation of the 'fairness doctrine'?
