Congressional candidate Ward: blue dog Minnick's nay votes on health care 'didn't stop anything'
Freedom Radio ^ | November 8, 2009 | Honest Conservative

Posted on 11/09/2009 12:32:43 PM PST by Sergeant Tim

Last night, Freedom Radio spoke with Combat Vet for Congress and conservative Republican candidate for Idaho's 1st District Vaughn Ward.

Ward's 18 years of experience of public service includes: service with the Marines on missions in Liberia, Cuba, Japan, Korea and as a company commander in Iraq; as an Operations Officer with the CIA in the Middle East, Africa, and Washington, DC; and as a Legislative Aide on Senator Kempthorne’s staff where he worked on commerce, defense, energy, transportation, and veteran’s issues for the people of Idaho. He is running against first-term incumbent and self-proclaimed blue dog Democrat Walt Minnick.

Of Minnick's votes against the stimulus, cap and trade, and health care, Ward say's, "Voting no is not enough. ... You (meaning Minnick) voted no on issues that were lost - our side was going to lose so you jumped on our side and voted no to try to endear yourself to Idahoans - but at the same time it didn't stop anything. No is not going to change the direction this country is headed."

Take a listen; I think the folks here at Free Republic will like Vaughn Ward.

By the way, Walt Minnick (D-ID) seemed to want it both ways on health care as he also voted against the Stupak amendment to the House's health care bill.

He’s a solid conservative with a libertarian point of view about smaller government.

This one will be up to the voters in that district. Flame me if you must but what I’ve seen of Minnick in his first term, he has stood for small business and economic common sense. Ward may very well be the right candidate, I’m just saying that Minnick hasn’t been a lapdog.

I won’t flame you yet listen to what Ward has to say on why Minnick has voted the way he did. And what’s up with his vote against the Stupak amendment?

And what’s up with his vote against the Stupak amendment?

The Stupak amendment was a Trojan Horse and assured the passage of this crap sandwich.

Anyone who is actually against this government run health care should have voted against it. It was designed to give cover to the blue dogs so they would vote to install the government run health care.

I am certain that if this passes, the democrats will simply put an amendment on a budget bill later and repeal the Stupak provisions.

I agree with your take on the amendment yet my point is Minnick seemed to throw a bone to the pro-choicers with his vote.

He's been fiscally conservative yes, but on most other issues he's been right in lock step with the other Democrats.

Wait till any gun votes come up. And contrary to what Pelosi or Reid have said in the past, a gun bill of some form will come up for a vote. All depends on when they run out of other stupid socialist ideas. Maybe not in 2010, but if they keep the House and Senate my bet is guns will be near top of the agenda in 2011. Guns are on the list, just depends on when they get far enough down the list to tackle them.

I'm not sure but I think Minnick is in the public can have hunting rifles and shotguns but nothing else camp of anti-gun people.

Nor should it. The very fact that Minnick has a “D” after his name is what helped Pelosi become speaker, and what helped move this legislation off the drawing board to being just a few procedural steps from becoming law.

The Stupak amendment actually allowed the bill to pass by freeing up pro-lifers to vote for it. Also, Minnick voted against Cap and Trade and the Stimulus. That's a rare Dem. Ward sounds exciting, but do we want to support the Republican party, RINOs and all or Conservatives of any party.

I don't care how conservative Ward is, he won't be as conservative as the former Vandal player, Steve Symms. I won't hold it against Ward if he sincerely repents.

Frankly if the loyal opposition consisted entirely of people like Walt Minnick, this country would be in pretty good shape. There aren't a lot of Democrats who are better than him but there are a lot of conservatives in Idaho's 1st District (my old stomping grounds) who would be better.

GO VANDALS!!! I-D-A-H-O, Idaho!, Idaho!, Go, Go, Go! Bury the Broncos in that ugly blue turf.

Minnick's first vote was for a democrat as speaker. His next big vote was FOR that lousy GIVE Act - yeah, the one with 'manditory volunteerism' in it.

I will personally have the opportunity to to advance conservatism by:

Walt Minnick has NOT stood up and spoken out against the bills his Democrat colleagues have forced through. While he states he cannot vote for those bills because of the state he represents, he is by no means a voice against those bills. Who needs him? He does this state and this country no good at all with a big red 'D' tattooed on his forehead. The democrats pass their garbage with him basically on their side, with or without his vote. He is a Pelosi Democrat.
