Updated: The law firm Sidley Austin has rescinded an employment offer to a Harvard law graduate who has turned himself in to police for allegedly setting fire to a Sept. 11 memorial in Manhattan.
The suspect, 26-year-old Brian Schroeder, is a 2009 graduate of Harvard Law School, the Harvard Law Record reports. He was a 2008 summer associate at Sidley Austin; a permanent offer of employment has been rescinded, Sidley Austin partner Bill Conlon told the ABA Journal.
Schroeder turned himself in for the blaze at the Memorial Park chapel housing the remains of unidentified Sept. 11 victims on Saturday evening, according to the New York Post and the New York Times. The remains were unharmed, but mementos such as photos and flowers were either damaged or stolen. Sources told the Post that the Saturday morning fire may have been set as part of a drunken dare.
Schroeder was co-president of HLS Lambda and served on a task force considering the impact of military recruiting on the campus gay community, according to the Harvard Law Record. He was a theater major as an undergraduate at Duke, and acted in Harvard's school satire called the Parody. He also edited the Harvard Latino Law Review.

What a sick creep...
Well, the diversity officer at Sidley is disappointed. He lost a twofer and will have to readjust his quotas. But a gay, female, Latina would be even better.
This guy certainly hit all the liberal dumbass checkmarks on the resume.
Sounds like Obama will have to whip out another waiver for this future czar.
Gay AND Latino? A twofer! Recruiters at law firms rarely get a twofer. Who is this guy, Perez Hilton's girlfriend? Does anyone care to guess whether he has Daily Kos or MoveOn.org bookmarked on his computer?
There's got to be an opening in the Czar ranks in Obummer's administration for a talented twink like this. And speaking of filling openings, Barney Frank will surely volunteer to offer accomodations.
That's a particularly vile act. Speechless...
Wasn’t Sidley Austin where Michelle worked? (and where Bernadine Dohrn continues to work?)
OH, man, what a loss. He had all the diversity points down!
All he had to do was to declare he set the fire as a diversion to escape from a gay bashing incident from brutal white male heterosexuals, and he would have been home free.
I’m shocked they didn’t immediately promote him to partner!
He's quite the go-getter.
They like them liberal, but not THAT liberal. A liberal acting on his beliefs is too radical. Then again, that wouldn't explain Bill Ayres success and rehabilitation.
Other than being a homo Latino military-hating fire-bomber.
Lighten up. Come on everybody. It was just a chapel, not St. Patrick's Cathedral! This amusing young fellow deserves to be forgiven and given a place on Team Obama. Van Johnson's Czar spot just happens to be open.
Also Obama could create a spot for him. How about Czar of Gay Latino - Religious Group Relations - or driver for Dede Scozzafava -- coat holder for Rahm Emannuel during his ballet lessons -- like that?
In short, I feel that you members of the VRWC are behaving in a thoroughly racist and homophobic (sorry, "Binary Gender Normative") manner. When this splendid young fellow is named by our POTUS to be something like "Czar of American Family Life and Morals," you may have to eat your words.
Heh heh heh...
Isn’t it amazing the education this guy was exposed to, and yet this was the ultimate outcome? Of course one has to keep in mind what ‘education’ this guy was actually getting. You couldn’t convince me he wasn’t exposed to professors that hate our military and wish it to fail.
This guy was primed to fail, more thank likely at the mosque, at his university, the leftist media, and by the political leftists in our nation.
What HR Dept on the planet takes a look at those ‘credentials’ and says “Yea, we want THIS guy!”
The perverts are everywhere...
