The morning after Republicans lost an upstate New York House seat, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) warned that conservative activists will bring destruction to the Republican Party if they drive out moderate candidates across the country.
To those people who are pursuing purity, youll become a club not a party, Graham told POLITICO in the Capitol Wednesday. Those people who are trying to embrace conservatism in a thoughtful way that fits the region and the state and the district are going to do well. Conservativism is an asset. Blind ideology is not.
Graham, who has sparred with his partys right wing on issues ranging from climate change to Guantanamo Bay to Sonia Sotomayors Supreme Court nomination, warned that those concerned about the state of the GOP should help find candidates who are electable not ones who adhere to a particular type of ideology. And he said that both the GOP nominee, Dede Scozzafava and the conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman were both out of the mainstream of the upstate New York district which lead to the victory of Democrat Bill Owens Tuesday night.

If I were Twinkletoes, I would be worried about conservatives, too. “Ohhhhh Noooooo! Keep those conservatives out of our pup tent, Johnny! Quick, zipper up the door, Mitt, so they can’t see we’re in here! Be vewy, vewy quiet and maybe they will go away.”
Linds: “To those people who are pursuing purity, youll become a club not a party,”
So Graham is just like all the freepers who say that exact same thing whenever some says they won’t vote for a LIBERAL DIABLO piece of detritus (not an actual moderate). Can’t see the difference between a moderate and a Dede Scuzzobama Linds? I’m sick of trying to explain the distinction.
That guy really needs to shut his mouth, it would raise his approval ratings if he never spoke.

RINO ideology in a nutshell
“And he said that both the GOP nominee, Dede Scozzafava and the conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman were both out of the mainstream of the upstate New York district which lead to the victory of Democrat Bill Owens Tuesday night.”
This moron from the stupid party doesn’t have a damned clue.
good point...use his own argument against him
I insist that any politician I support fully oppose mudering innocent babies.
Anyone who saracastically labels that principled stance 'pursuing purity' is a jack@ss.
Graham also bounces around the Michael Steel Echo Chamber by advocating for a 'conservatism' that "fits the region and the state and the district."
That is the new buzz phrase for excusing the inclusion of social liberals under the Republican banner. According to Steele-Gingrich-Graham, conservative positions on social issues are not necessary for Republican candidates, but are disposable and thus malleable district to district.
If they lack shared ideology, they will lack shared positions on the issues.
In that case, why vote for them?
Out of an affinity for the letters G O P ???
Good-bye Lindsthy. Enjoy your irrelevance.
Hey Lindsey the democrats are looking for a few good men!!!
“You can neuter Lindsey (until his removal in 2014) by purging his mentor, Juan...in next year’s Arizona Senate election. “
We have to come up with a viable CANDIDATE first, Rabs. As of now we don’t have one.
You know though Strom Thurmond himself moved steadily to the left to keep that SC Senate seat through all the changing social times. Even Strom knew that SC people are more liberal than New Yorkers think they are. Strom even voted for King Day in 1983, as Jesse Helms led the hopeless opposition.
People in AZ will keep McPain because they enjoy self-flagellation.
“People in AZ will keep McPain because they enjoy self-flagellation.”
No we don’t. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get rid of a long long time incumbent? McCain is backed by big money out of state, and some in state as well. The only one who could murder him is J.D. Hayworth. Hayworth got trashed by Bush/Rove, because he wouldn’t cow tow to amnesty. Others could win, but are up against that big money. Without a viable candidate willing to run, what the hell can we do?
Tried that in '08. Didn't work.
Amen to that. That’s exactly how I feel. Clean out the crap.
