A day after Tim Pawlenty took a few shots at Olympia Snowe, RNC Chairman Michael Steele came to her defense.
Asked on Morning Joe whether there was room for the Maine centrist in the GOP, Steele responded "absolutely."
Welcome! Welcome! Because--you know why that's important? Because every footprint of this party is different from region to region, from county to county. I can't win in the northeast with someone who'd be a better candidate suited in the south....So the reality of it is I'm looking to find my candidates where they are. And I want to lift them up because they represent those districts. So like New England, Olympia Snowe works there for her. She may not translate in South Carolina. She works in Maine.
Yesterday, Pawlenty warned Snowe that she was risking her spot in the GOP by possibly supporting healthcare reform. He also refused to say whether he was glad Snowe was a Republican.

A Centrist would be an improvement on Snowe. There might be a little truth in this. Snowe is too far left to be called Centrist.
Steele going bi-polar again.
You can not defend her taking the position she did when she voted for. Her excuses were lame and anyone that would stick up for her is just as lame. We need conservatives with a backbone. Not Rinos looking for a seat.
I see the media are trying to create a little dust up to cause some mischief in the Republican party which they hope will take eyes off the disaster that is Ozero’s administration.
Does ideology mean absolutely nothing to him?
What good does it do to have an R by your name if you vote 100% dem all of the time?
MAINE ?????????? Dummy what the hell does that have too do with Cap and Trade that the Pinko Skank voted for???
Before any clowns start on the usual non-sense rantings ... SNOWE is NOT a moderate.
SNOWE gives moderates a bad name.
Mikey has a flashing idiot light on his dashboard warning him that his career as RNC chair is nearing failure. Will he heed it?
Conservatism needs to remain in the big tent of the Republican Party, but the tent should not have much space reserved for RINOs - and campaign donation ($upport) needs to be diminished to those not toeing the line for minimal government, minimal taxes, strong national security, constitutional fundamentalism, job creation, and protection of personal liberties.
NO THIRD PARTY! Let's fix the one we have...plus I kinda like the elephant, but the elephant's famous memory has forgotten how to win, Reagan-style.
Steele is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. Give him credit for not being a tyrant. He is browsing the buffet.....he is not yet the chef.
His mandate is not to destroy the GOP, but to build on it. Glad it’s his job and not mine.
I keep hoping that the Republican Party will become entirely dominated by liberals...look for funding with the KOS Kiddies and maybe join FR with DU and do some fund raising...and...and then...WTF ARE WE DOING WITH A LAMEBRAIN LIKE THIS IN CHARGE????
Steele is right. I don’t like Snowe’s views most of the time, but she has been elected multiple times by the Republicans in hir state. Who’s to say they can’t do that?
I am sooo sick of Michael Steel. He didn’t learn anything by watching the NY23. Snowe is a dem any way you slice it. She ain’t no GOP or conservative. Wish he would just go away
These RINOS still think it’s a popularity contest. Their awakening will be rude for them and sweet for us, when they all get the boot!
How about the disaster in the RNC and the party in general?
Thomas Sowell, is smart and knowledgeable, as is Alan Keyes. How is it we get Michael Steele?
Reverend Jesse Peterson knows the complicity of picking a moderate on purpose ... simply to create a weak Republican party.. He can say what most of us can not say.
The Republicans have joined the liberals on many issues for self aggrandizement, and corruption. MO
They have been in Washington too long. MO! God help us in our day, in Jesus name, amen.
And these stupid RINO bastards expect me to shower them with my hard-earned mony. They can stuff it.
