In a stinging setback for the national gay-rights movement, Maine voters narrowly decided to repeal the state’s new law allowing same-sex marriage.

With 87 percent of precincts reporting early this morning, 53 percent of voters had approved the repeal, ending an expensive and emotional fight that was closely watched around the country as a referendum on the national gay-marriage movement. Polls had suggested a much closer race.

With the repeal, Maine became the 31st state to reject same-sex marriage at the ballot box. Five other states - Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, New Hampshire and Vermont - have legalized same-sex marriage, but only through court rulings and legislative action.

Yes indeed. Every time a liberal/marxist says the Constitution is a living breathing document it is because they are the 'gods' that give it 'life'.

Congrats, Mainers for marriage!!! You were outspent, disparaged, threatened and call bigots, “homophobes”, and haters - and yet you still pulled through.

Get ready for some really nasty reprisal, though. It’s what they’re all about.

We didn’t vote for or against gay marriage.

We voted to REPEAL a law passed against our wishes by our state reps in the middle of the night last year.

Hopefully the vote count will be remembered next year.

This sat there is a ralley at the state capital to announce ‘ one year to go’ to the next election.

Everone is encouraged to bring a ‘SNOWE SHOVELL’.

When I lived in Mass, I TWICE worked for and voted to repeal income tax levy.

You probably know, the one time it passed, it was over ruled by the Mass Supreme Court... so much for the will of the people.

I did not intend to obscure your states initiative by my post.

This is the best news of the night in my opinion. To win in the northeast, the bastion of social leftists, is a huge victory.

I tried to watch as much as I could. In the early moments, she was expounding upon how the homosexuals had more money and had an effective get out the vote campaign in Maine. She just knew her side would win.

I dearly love to watch Marxists on television when they are losing.

Maine has to be the most beautiful state I have visited. The people were friendly (different, but friendly), the food was great. Although that one spot, Algonquin, had a bunch of old women dressed like lumberjacks. Were they?...Nah...Couldn’t be...

The Legislation is now beginning to see that they have riled up the people by cramming their immoral Social Engineering schemes down our throats with Judge rulings and unballoted legislation.

Their attitude that they (Barney Frank) know what's best for us stupid idiot little people, may just become their worst nightmare. They may have well created a new era of strict Government accountability and scrutiny.

ABOUT DAMN TIME!

Last night I flipped over to CNN and watched John King and Anderson Cooper gleefully talk about how the Nos were up early 53/47 ( with 12% in) 12% was of course the cities where gays live. When average Americans voted they said YES! Way to go Maine! But this was not unexpected last summer Maine went fiscally conservative in its state budget.

31 for 31. Ya think the people have spoken yet?

I understand what you mean by 31, but let it be clear that the other 30 referendum were state constitutional amendment issues. The Maine victory last night merely 'vetoed' the legislation passed by the Maine Assembly and signed by the Governor.

If I remember correctly, a push for a Maine constitutional marriage amendment several years ago failed to garnish much support. I hope the real threat (yes, the homoperverts can push another law) motivates people to get serious about this.

I wonder if the ferocity with which gay marriage proponents attack their detractors was also a factor.

Probably. Hell hath no fury like a woman faggot scorned ... and normal folk don't appreciate being on the receiving end of such scorn.
