Barrie Osborne, part of the Oscar-winning team behind the Lord of the Rings films, says the new production 'will educate people about the true meaning of Islam'
Producer Barrie Osborne cast Keanu Reeves as the messiah in The Matrix and helped defeat the dark lord Sauron in his record-breaking Lord of the Rings trilogy. Now the Oscar-winning American film-maker is set to embark on his most perilous quest to date: making a big-screen biopic of the prophet Muhammad.
Budgeted at around $150m (£91.5m), the film will chart Muhammad's life and examine his teachings. Osborne told Reuters that he envisages it as "an international epic production aimed at bridging cultures. The film will educate people about the true meaning of Islam".
Osborne's production will reportedly feature English-speaking Muslim actors. It is backed by the Qatar-based production company Alnoor Holdings, who have installed the Muslim scholar Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi to oversee all aspects of the shoot. In accordance with Islamic law, the prophet will not actually be depicted on screen.

I worry about a picture like this. It is set up to be a whitewash from what is mentioned in the article. And of course they have already bought into the “Qaradawi is a moderate” line of hogwash by employing him as a technical adviser.
Back in 2005 Hollywood made a movie called Kingdom of Heaven which perpetuated every misconception about the Crusades. The problem is that people tend to take what they see in such movies as factual. The silver screen is a powerful medium.
I for one would like to see an effort to get Qaradawi removed from the project by pointing out the truth about him. That might be enough to put the movie under a cloud from the start...

Years ago I was flipping through the nether regions of the cable channels and came across a film the Scientologists had made about L. Ron Hubbard and dramatizing the birth of their cult. They didn’t show his face either, and the parts that I watched seemed to mostly consist of the back of a head and a bunch of people around it saying, “Ron, we’ve got to let the people know about this.”

Well, after all, Hollywood has addressed Jesus Christ with the Last Temptation of Christ. And then they bitch slapped that nasty Mel Gibson for his depiction.
I suppose it’s now time to release a movie that makes Mohammad look charismatic and holy by comparison.

Well, after watching 37 year old Nicole Kidman’s unconsummated affair with a ten year old boy in “Birth” and watching the softporn movie “The Reader” with a 36 year old woman and a 15 year old boy, I still don’t think that I am ready to watch a Muhammed in his fifties banging away at a 9 year old wife.
Fortunately, the film will not be available in the US due to numerous instances of child sexual abuse. /s
and then after you can settle down to watch the news to see yet again muslims killing people around the world.
