Former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan, who lost to Democrat Rod Blagojevich in the 2002 governor's race, will be attempting a political comeback by filing petitions to seek next year's Republican governor nomination, aides said Sunday. Ryan's camp will file petitions Monday to appear on the Feb. 2 Republican primary ballot, aides said. That's the last day to do so. Ryan hasn't said anything publicly about his potential candidacy. A news conference is scheduled for Tuesday in Springfield. Ryan lost to the now-disgraced Blagojevich 52 percent to 45 percent in an open-seat contest -- the result of an election in which the GOP was hounded by the scandals surrounding the occupant of the governor's mansion at the time, Republican George Ryan. The Ryans were not related, but the attorney general's name didn't help. For most of the time since leaving state government, the former two-term attorney general has been a lecturer at Benedictine University in Lisle.

Soros is either paying him, threatening him, or both. No one could POSSIBLY be that stupid.
*ping*
I read “Jim Ryun,” too (as in the miler and foremr Congressman from Kansas), and thought “he’s running against Brownback?” Glad to hear that’s not the case.
His last name is radioactive, and that’s the least of his problems.
I never thought he was a RINO (nor the cream of the conservative crust).
Is he a frontrunner now? He has more name rec than every other Republican candidate.
Will he stand by the people?
I have no problem with his position on the issues (ideologically he's probably the second most conservative statewide official we've had in the last decade, after Peter Fitzgerald), but he's damaged goods now and 2002 loss to Blago was his last hurrah. His record as A.G. and DuPage Co. States Attorney will always come back to haunt him and the Dems will never let people forget he put "innocent" Rolando Cruz on death row (no mention of the fact Rolando is a scumbag guilty of other crimes and probably deserves to be in jail even if he didn't kill that particular guy). Half the threads on this board inadvertently show another huge problem -- people confuse Jim Ryan with George Ryan and Jack Ryan (Lurker even managed to mix up the two of them in the same thread, associating Jim Ryan's Rolando Cruz case with Jack Ryan's kinky sex "scandal")
We're fine right now with the field we got: three fairly reliable conservatives (Brady, Proft, and Andrewjewski), and three combiners (Dillard, Schillerstorm, and McKenna). Ryan will just muddy up the field more and if he wins the nomination he'd be a very weak general election candidate because he's a rehash of the old guard. Please Jim, take the hint.
And just for the record...

GEORGE RYAN, criminal DIABLO scumbag.
At least we can be thankful that Congressman Jim Ryun (R-KS) and Congressmen Paul Ryan (R-WI) are in other states so they won't confuse Illinois voters even more.
And speaking of our infamous 2002 Senate candidate Jack Ryan, FEC records recently showed that he donated the maximum amount to Eric Wallace in the primary. And Jack Ryan lives in Mark Kirk's district. Seems that those who know Marky the best don't like him. Hmmm.
I’m going to the governor’s candidate forum on Wednesday. Hope to find out who the conservative candidate is.....
Wait, Jack lives in Kirk’s district? Wouldn’t he be a strong candidate for the House seat? Sure, he went to a sex club with his wife, but before Obama got the Chicago Tribune to convince a judge in L.A. to open up his divorce records he was doing great among moderate voters despite his conservative issue positions.
The victim in that case was actually a ten year old girl.
I still get pissed off when I think about that.
Jack Ryan could have won and saved us from this Obama mess. The same combiners (led by Andy McKenna) who forced Fitzgerald out decided they didn’t like him either and offered no support.
It’s too late for him to file for congress now, today (Monday) was the last day for major party filing.
But I wouldn’t mind seeing him run for office again in the future.
3 of them aren’t. Dillard, McKenna, Schillserstrom.
Actually McKenna takes conservative positions but he’s combiner scum. You can thank him for Obama being in office.
McKenna has some funny Blago “hair” commercials, but that’s all he’s got going for him. So Andrzejewski, Proft and Brady are the conservative candidates?
I agree about Jack Ryan. He was offed by the Obama-ites, but he was a good candidate and should run for office again.
Plus it’s got an Obama from Hawaii and an Obama from Kenya! ;)
Wow, that’s an early filing deadline. So the primary fields are set already in every race?
Since Cali moved there’s I think we have the earliest primary now. Feb 2.
Yeah every primary race is set, except the rat primaries for Danny K. Davis’s house seat and Cook County Board President because Davis filed for both after previously saying he was gonna run for Board President. He has a week to choose which one he wants to stay in.
Yeah. And so is Jim Ryan.
No, the primary fields aren’t set. The last day to challenge petitions is Nov. 9. I’m running for state rep., in the 17th District, and my petiiton was copied by an aide to State Rep. Tom Cross. Cross endorsed one of my primary opponents.
But it’s too late for anyone new to get in?
Good luck in your race, Phil. Is it an open seat? I assume that there are several open seats in your area due to the trickle down effect of Kirk running for the U.S. Senate, with state senators running for the U.S. House and state representatives running for the state senate.
Yes, it’s too late for anyone to enter my race. The last day to file was yesterday.
Yes, it’s an open seat. My state rep., Elizabeth Coulson, is runnning for Rep. Kirk’s seat. I don’t know of any state rep., in the Chicago area, who is running for the state senate. State Reps. Coulson and Cross endorsed one of my primary opponents. Coulson is pro-choice, pro-gun control, and pro-illegal alien, so she probably endorsed a Republican who is as liberal as she is.
