Former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan, who lost to Democrat Rod Blagojevich in the 2002 governor's race, will be attempting a political comeback by filing petitions to seek next year's Republican governor nomination, aides said Sunday. Ryan's camp will file petitions Monday to appear on the Feb. 2 Republican primary ballot, aides said. That's the last day to do so. Ryan hasn't said anything publicly about his potential candidacy. A news conference is scheduled for Tuesday in Springfield. Ryan lost to the now-disgraced Blagojevich 52 percent to 45 percent in an open-seat contest -- the result of an election in which the GOP was hounded by the scandals surrounding the occupant of the governor's mansion at the time, Republican George Ryan. The Ryans were not related, but the attorney general's name didn't help. For most of the time since leaving state government, the former two-term attorney general has been a lecturer at Benedictine University in Lisle.

You’re confusing Jim Ryan with Jack Ryan. The latter was Barack Obama’s original opponent in the 2004 Senate race until the Chicago Tribune and WLS-TV (conveniently) went to court, demanding that his divorce records be unsealed. Eventually, a Democratic judge agreed and we learned that his ex-wife, Jeri Ryan of “Star Trek” fame, claimed that he took her to sex clubs.
Again, that was Jack Ryan, not Jim Ryan the former Illinois Attorney General. Unfortunately, he shares the same last name with Jack and former Governor George Ryan, who was convicted on corruption charges. Jim Ryan is not related to either man, although he might consider a name change before he runs for governor.
Not a relative but I doubt any Ryans will get elected in Illinois for a long time.

Jim Ryan tried to use the Illinois Courts to murder an innocent man. That’s far more germane to me than whether or not he wanted to have kinky sex with or without his wife.

Considered by local media as the most successful prosecutor in the state of Illinois, Ryan was urged to run for the state’s highest legal office. In 1994, Ryan won an election to become Illinois Attorney General. He was reelected in 1998 with the endorsement of every major newspaper in the state. Ryan’s most notable accomplishment as Illinois Attorney General was his $9.1 billion settlement from tobacco companies. It was the largest public judgment in the state’s history.
