Jim Ryan to seek GOP governor nomination
Chicago Tribune ^ | November 2, 2009 | Tribune staff report

Posted on 11/02/2009 12:58:05 PM PST by MinnesotaLibertarian

Former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan, who lost to Democrat Rod Blagojevich in the 2002 governor's race, will be attempting a political comeback by filing petitions to seek next year's Republican governor nomination, aides said Sunday. Ryan's camp will file petitions Monday to appear on the Feb. 2 Republican primary ballot, aides said. That's the last day to do so. Ryan hasn't said anything publicly about his potential candidacy. A news conference is scheduled for Tuesday in Springfield. Ryan lost to the now-disgraced Blagojevich 52 percent to 45 percent in an open-seat contest -- the result of an election in which the GOP was hounded by the scandals surrounding the occupant of the governor's mansion at the time, Republican George Ryan. The Ryans were not related, but the attorney general's name didn't help. For most of the time since leaving state government, the former two-term attorney general has been a lecturer at Benedictine University in Lisle.

I don't know much about this guy, even though I lived in the state while he was Attorney General. Comments from any Illinois Freepers?

He already proved he can't take the kind of anal exam the Democrat/MSM-complex is going to give him.

If he had stuck it out when TSHTF during his Senate quest, he had a decent chance of beating Obama.

And Obama wouldn't be President.

I know that the whole sex-club allegation from his ex-wife the Star Trek babe is going to surface again and reopen a bunch of media bashing of the GOP for it’s “culture of corruption”. Why go there?

If he had kept it in his pants, Hillary would now be president.

Yes, you’re thinking of Jack Ryan. This is Jim—he ran against Blago for governor 8 years ago.

You’re confusing Jim Ryan with Jack Ryan. The latter was Barack Obama’s original opponent in the 2004 Senate race until the Chicago Tribune and WLS-TV (conveniently) went to court, demanding that his divorce records be unsealed. Eventually, a Democratic judge agreed and we learned that his ex-wife, Jeri Ryan of “Star Trek” fame, claimed that he took her to sex clubs.

Again, that was Jack Ryan, not Jim Ryan the former Illinois Attorney General. Unfortunately, he shares the same last name with Jack and former Governor George Ryan, who was convicted on corruption charges. Jim Ryan is not related to either man, although he might consider a name change before he runs for governor.

Not a relative but I doubt any Ryans will get elected in Illinois for a long time.

Jim Ryan tried to use the Illinois Courts to murder an innocent man. That’s far more germane to me than whether or not he wanted to have kinky sex with or without his wife.

I thought Jack Ryan was in the CIA and saved America a few times plus one.

Oh, wait, that was a novel.

Illinois Attorney General
Considered by local media as the most successful prosecutor in the state of Illinois, Ryan was urged to run for the state’s highest legal office. In 1994, Ryan won an election to become Illinois Attorney General. He was reelected in 1998 with the endorsement of every major newspaper in the state. Ryan’s most notable accomplishment as Illinois Attorney General was his $9.1 billion settlement from tobacco companies. It was the largest public judgment in the state’s history.

Electoral history
Illinois gubernatorial election, 2002
Rod Blagojevich (D), 52%
Jim Ryan (R), 45%

Jim Ryan had nothing to do with kinky sex. Personally I believe the guy he convicted was connected in some way with the murder.

I think he was invovled with the The Jeanine Nicarico murder case.

“a complex and influential homicide investigation and prosecution in DuPage County, Illinois that sent two men to prison who were later exonerated and released, and contributed to the death penalty moratorium imposed by then-Governor George H. Ryan.”

"... that was Jack Ryan, not Jim Ryan"

Not to be confused with George Ryan.

Ah yes, 'beliefs'..now that's something people belong on Death Row for; your stupid 'beliefs'.

Rolando Cruz was convicted on a string of lies supported by Jim Ryan. That's the fact.

Jim Ryan shouldn't be running for Governor of Illinois, he should be serving out a long prison sentence.

I'll not vote for him for any office.
