Free Speech Prevails as Stephen Meyer Speaks on Intelligent Design to Huge Crowd (in CO)
Evolution News & Views ^ | October 31, 2009 | John West, Ph.D.

Castle Rock, Colorado—Despite the first major snowstorm of the season, and unrelenting efforts by malicious Darwinists to prevent people from registering, a huge crowd of around 1,000 people showed up Friday night to hear Dr. Stephen Meyer present the DNA evidence for intelligent design based on his new book Signature in the Cell. Meyer, Michael Behe, David Berlinski, and myself are in Colorado to speak at the Legacy of Darwin ID Conference sponsored by Shepherd Project Ministries. On Saturday, Michael Behe will present the evidence against modern Darwinism from his books Darwin’s Black Box and The Edge of Evolution; David Berlinski will talk about The Devil’s Delusion and The Deniable Darwin; and I will talk about my book Darwin Day in America. Any fair-minded person in the Denver-Castle Rock-Colorado Springs area who still wants to come is welcome to purchase tickets at the door on Saturday morning starting at 8:15 am. The conference is taking place at the Douglas County Events Center. As of tonight, the malicious jamming of the Shepherd’s Project website seems to be continuing. Not content to suppress free speech about Darwin’s theory in schools and colleges and the media, some Darwinist vigilantes are now apparently even trying to stop intelligent design proponents from speaking at private conferences. Fortunately, their suppression tactics don’t seem to be working!

If anything this conference was a testamony to the Founding Fathers and the Constitution. Too bad you weren’t so supportive of the rights of those attending the recent Vatican Conference on Evolution.

“In the meantime, let’s prevent their message from getting out by sicking the ACLU on them, making it illegal to challenge Darwinism in public schools, and going after any scientist who dares to challenge our evo-religious creation myth!”

So nonsupport equates to censorship?

Who tried to make their speech illegal? Only speech against the Darwinist Evolution Religion is illegal, just look at the Government schools!

"So nonsupport equates to censorship?"

I didn't say that. I just commented that GGG hasn't celebreated the exercise of free speech he disagrees with. Quite the contrary, he, and a few of his inner circle, spend hours each day shouting down opinions and scientific fact they disagree with.

Castle Rock. Figures it wasn’t up in the twin People’s Republics of Boulder and Ft. Collins.

Then take your children out of public schools like I did. If your priorities are right there is no one who cannot afford to properly educate their children.

And since when have they "celebreated" GGG speech?

Then take your children out of public schools...

Your avoiding the issue; name the law against the speech against speaking out about Darwinism or Evolution in the US?

"Your avoiding the issue;"

I'm not avoiding any issue. There shouldn't be any restrictions on speech regarding this debate, but I don't expect a secular government to support creationist theory in publicly supported schools. That is why I made sure my children were educated in Parochial school.

My guess is that you would be equally irritated if the government presented Judeo-Christian as one of many creationist theories that also included Hindu, Buddhist, Mayan, Incan, Taoist, Zoroastrian, Baal, Druid and animist.

You guess wrong. Besides, I do see these other religions being expressed in schools, by teachers no less, and and having it protected as Free Speech. But your trying to get away from the point again; name the law against the free speech of Darwinism or Evolution? There are only laws against arguments against it!

"name the law against the free speech of Darwinism or Evolution?"

I can't because there isn't one. If your kids aren't in public schools it doesn't matter, does it?There isn't compelling or prohibiting the theorey of relativity either from being taught. What your point?

This sounds like a huge “Preaching to the Choir” event. It makes no sense that anyone would want to block it, unless the ID’ers are using the Tawana Brawley playbook.
