Lightweight running sneakers can be particularly buoyant, protecting the remains from critters while also helping the shoe to pop up and float along the waters surface.
I've been running for over 25 years and that's always been a consideration when I buy a new pair of shoes.

"Disarticulated feet do occasionally wash ashore " There are billions, perhaps trillions of possible word combinations in the English language. I imagine almost all of them have been used in one place or another at some previous point in history. I am positive that this particular phrase is unique, possibly to never be reprinted again.
