In a recent Curb Your Enthusiasm episode, Larry David accidentally urinates on a picture of Jesus while he is a guest in someone else’s home. This, in turn, leads to a misunderstanding in which the homeowners think they have a miraculously weeping Jesus.
Some Christians are understandably upset.
Just some thoughts on what this episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm has revealed:
Are producers of this show, or Larry David, or anyone else connected to it fearing for their lives right now? Are there Christian groups calling for the death of anyone in connection to this episode?
In comparison, let us say, to the Muhammad cartoons riots and death threats, what does this say about Islam and Christianity? Which faith is a Religion of Peace and which one is not?
Would the producers of this show have just as easily allowed a scene in which Larry David urinates on a Koran? He couldn’t urinate on a picture of Muhammad because we all know that making a representation of Muhammad gets you an immediate death sentence. So we have to settle for the Holy Book. But how much does anyone want to bet that this would never be allowed?
Question: Why in our culture is urinating on Jesus easily permitted but urinating on the Koran is simply unthinkable? What does this signify?

He wouldn’t if he valued his life. He can urinate on the Christian Bible, no sweat, Christians as a rule don’t kill people that desecrate the Word of God (is paper and ink after all) … knowing God is in charge and will handle the situation. He can urinate on the Holy scripture of the Jews … same reason as stated above.
This gutless bastard needs to be hung, drawn, and quartered. Try doing that on the Koran or the Torah and see the reaction. Yes, he’d be hung, drawn, and quartered.
People like him are only brave when they're convinced there won't be any action taken against them to hurt their bank account or their faces.

I’m going to kinda sorta go against the flow and point out the fact that there was an episode from an earlier season of “Curb” where Larry had a similar misunderstanding with a black Muslim. If I recall the episode correctly, he sits down in front of him while he’s on his prayer mat facing Mecca and then asks “Did you need me to move out of the way or something?” And then starts asking him “How loud” his prayer’s going to be. And throughout the episode he keeps wondering “if a black guy’s wearing a bow tie, that automatically makes him Muslim, right?”
There was another episode where his best friend confesses to having a dirty dream about his wife, so he forces her to wear a burqa to a Halloween party.
So I dunno, Larry David’s style of humor is pretty broad. It’s really more about him taking a self-deprecating look at himself than anything.
Out of all the fanatical Muslim overreactions and bizarre behaviors, the ONE they do not display is the Christian habit of finding images of Jesus in assorted foodstuffs and shadows, or fluid weeping and bleeding on paintings and statuary.
Urination on a Koran therefore would not be mocking any similar behavior.
You know, I'm sure he would.
I don't think Larry David has the guts to even mention the Koran in one of his shows. It takes no courage to piss on Christ, because Christians may be offended, but they won't kill you and your family and the horse you rode in on.
But publicly ridicule Islam or criticize Mohammed and you risk death from a billion directions.
