I’m going to kinda sorta go against the flow and point out the fact that there was an episode from an earlier season of “Curb” where Larry had a similar misunderstanding with a black Muslim. If I recall the episode correctly, he sits down in front of him while he’s on his prayer mat facing Mecca and then asks “Did you need me to move out of the way or something?” And then starts asking him “How loud” his prayer’s going to be. And throughout the episode he keeps wondering “if a black guy’s wearing a bow tie, that automatically makes him Muslim, right?”
There was another episode where his best friend confesses to having a dirty dream about his wife, so he forces her to wear a burqa to a Halloween party.
So I dunno, Larry David’s style of humor is pretty broad. It’s really more about him taking a self-deprecating look at himself than anything.
Out of all the fanatical Muslim overreactions and bizarre behaviors, the ONE they do not display is the Christian habit of finding images of Jesus in assorted foodstuffs and shadows, or fluid weeping and bleeding on paintings and statuary.
Urination on a Koran therefore would not be mocking any similar behavior.
I enjoy watching Curb Your Enthusiasm, but not for the obvious reasons.
If you cannot understand Liberal Thinking, tune in. All the Characters are self absorbed Malibu / West L.A. Rich Liberal Elites. They are absurd, but closer to reality than anyone would want to admit.
Anything goes as long as you don’t get caught, but Larry’s character always lets his Self Righteous Liberal Narcissism get him in trouble.
The show does prove one thing though. Liberals can get away with lying about any group they detest, while Conservatives are ridiculed for telling the truth.

What gets me is that David couldn’t come up with some other way of getting water on the painting since the point was to make fun of Christians who see these things as miracles? He had to partially urinate on it? He’s got to be just as much of a jerk as his “character” in “Curb...”
