I’m going to kinda sorta go against the flow and point out the fact that there was an episode from an earlier season of “Curb” where Larry had a similar misunderstanding with a black Muslim. If I recall the episode correctly, he sits down in front of him while he’s on his prayer mat facing Mecca and then asks “Did you need me to move out of the way or something?” And then starts asking him “How loud” his prayer’s going to be. And throughout the episode he keeps wondering “if a black guy’s wearing a bow tie, that automatically makes him Muslim, right?”
There was another episode where his best friend confesses to having a dirty dream about his wife, so he forces her to wear a burqa to a Halloween party.
So I dunno, Larry David’s style of humor is pretty broad. It’s really more about him taking a self-deprecating look at himself than anything.
