Mother facing prosecution 'for asking for ethnic hospital staff to be removed from birthing room'
Daily Mail ^ | October 29, 2009 | Andrew Levy

A mother is facing action under race discrimination laws after objecting to ethnic minority hospital staff being present at the birth of her child. The woman was about to undergo a caesarean section when she made her demand. It was not clear yesterday whether she was referring to black employees, those of Asian origin, or any other staff working at Milton Keynes Hospital in Buckinghamshire. But an insider said: ‘The mother objected to one type of ethnic minority members of staff being there.’ The woman, who was accompanied by her partner for the delivery earlier this month, gave birth to a healthy child.

The hospital yesterday claimed the woman’s demands were dismissed and the delivery was overseen by a team that was ‘not all-white’ ...

Well, theres nothing wrong with her being given the slap-up for this strop she seems to have thrown... if the staff is qualified, and has done nothing to merit removal, I see no reason why a patient should start disrupting and dictating hospital room staffing for procedures.

Each procedure is supposed to be adequately staffed with a certain number of qualified professionals attending. Hospitals dont have an endless supply of attendants at the beck and call of patients, for their pleasure. She’s lucky the doctor didnt get immediately and extremely angry with her.

I can understand dismissing her demands, but to prosecute her is the action of a totalitarian state.

Yes but what about the catastrophic consequence of someone of a certain color seeing her whooptie doo?

That is weird and unhelpful, to put it mildly, when she is on the verge of a surgery. Not the time to have “issues”. If they are qualified AND SPEAK ENGLISH, in England, I would have no problem with an “ethnic” staff. Sounds like she might have a hang-up.

I should have added to my post below yours, I also don’t think she should be charged with anything, other than possibly being a loon.

I would say that if an individual in the US is paying their own insurance then they should have the right to ask for medical staff of their own color.

But if an individual is using taxpayer funds, I would say that right is gone as other races pay taxes too. Then you would be using money partly paid by minorities to discriminate against minorities.

Of course in England, this is probably a govt. hospital and govt. employees getting paid with taxpayer money so I think the woman is wrong here.

Well, unless she got a C-Section, I would consider her not responsible for her actions.

I can understand ignoring her but prosecuting her? That is just nuts. Everyone knows that pregnant and in labor females are not in their right freaking minds. Everyone needs to take a step back.

This is like prosecuting a 6 year old boy for bring a boyscout tool to school.

Logic should prevail. No longer in a socialist society. A true 1984 world is here.

Maybe, she read how ‘some’ groups do a little selective surgery on women?

I would never argue with a woman in that situation.

Exactly. Lots of things get said during labor that require a thick skin.

Maybe she read how ‘some groups’ refuse to correctly scrub for surgical procedures because it would mean revealing their arms and that would be against their religion?

Hmmm. What religion would THAT be, I wonder?

Oh? Put her life at risk because she wanted to choose which medical staff were present?

Well hold on there friend, common sense and logic should prevail; now we have to keep in mind that in 2009, England and dealing with Euro-trash absolutely nullifies any consideration of normality, except “Political Corruption.” However, if a Government sponsored facility, and she was in labor or the moment of stress we can’t have the offended of the Clown Universe being offended without a good example of discipline for all to see in the cosmos. /sarc

It would appear that all the professional staff in the delivery room were qualified to conduct their jobs. Moreover, those staff are not white, not black, not Asian, but rather a Team of Medical Professionals and lashing out against one or two members of that team is the same as lashing out at the entire team.

But, this happened in England, so even in a hospital room she was a “subject”.

In the US, she should, at least so far, have some rights to select caregivers and participants. At least, I have recently decided who would provide the personal care my Doctor ordered.
