Obama declares swine flu emergency
WASHINGTON (AFP) President Barack Obama has declared swine flu a "national emergency," the White House said Saturday, as the United States reels from millions of cases of infection and over 1,000 deaths.

Yes, Gerald R. Ford, Jr., recommended that vaccine, but did he and Betty take it?
I’ve been saying for a long time I don’t believe HolyO {cue angelic chorus} will last out the year before he is impeached (along with his cronies in Congress, etc.)
Anyone else feel like there’s a scent of desperation coming from the WH with this kind of announcement?
Last week, I went to the doctors to get a pneumonia vaccine.
After they gave me the vaccine, they had me wait outside to see if I had a reaction to it. Well, they had me sit by this man who I heard was there to get an X-ray because he was coughing, had a fever, had a sore throat. When he came to sit by me, I got up and moved. He didn’t even have a mask on.
It’s been over a week, so at least I don’t think I picked up anything from him.
If a guy is being X-rayed they're probably checking for pneumonia, and probably because of his particular circumstances - perhaps a transplant patient, HIV sufferer, something like that.
Penelope,
If you find an article or evidence that my dose should go from 2000 to 5000 let me know!
First the kids, the children, are really being hit very hard by this virus. In those subject to the severe forms blood clots are forming in the lungs with death soon following. Keep in mind this is a virus and palliative care is about the best even a hospital can really do.
Second, the vaccine can take up to 3 weeks to become fully effective. I am sort of, of the opinion that the vaccine is way too late to do any sort of real good.
Third, we don't have enough vaccine. That my FRiend seals our fates in my humble opinion.
Fourth, they are talking about triage outside of hospitals to protect those in the hospitals. What if you need to be in the hospital? What if the hospital is full? FEMA camp for you?
Fifth, all of these issues lay the path to a Federal Quarantine.
The truth is if it gets that bad, really that bad and in this case it is a highly contagious disease...it really is the only way to handle it.
I've watched many of the virus threads here on FR. I am on the ping lists. One thing is clearly evident during a mass outbreak of anything, the government(s) lies. The numbers are corrupt and the information is sketchy. Don't count on anything in any reported news source. From observation of such events if they are setting up city, state, federal quarantines...it is worse than you realize.
That stated, 0bama will abuse this authority. Watch and see.
Thank you - I will look for those tomorrow
Maybe this is why his daughters did not get the vaccine.

Yes, thanks for reminding everyone that ASPIRIN is a big NO-NO with any flu.
The docs aren’t getting more seasonal flu vaccine because there isn’t more. The manufacturing capacity was diverted to making swine flu vaccine.
That’s why we’re so short of seasonal flu vaccine and the swine flu vaccine is going to be distributed too late for half the population.
You can thank all the law suits over children’s vaccines for tanking the U.S. capacity to manufacture vaccines.
All the antiviral meds have potential for significant side effects. Like with many other things you have to weigh the risks of this flu versus the risks of the medicine.
In my case it was no contest. I think any one with asthma would probably have the odds greatly on the side of taking the med.
Take or give the Tamiflu with a small carbohydrate meal, low fat. Like sherbet or Jell-0 or Top Ramen.
That will decrease the likelihood of nausea, etc.
Yes.
If the swine flu vaccine is not available for them to take (with the pediatrician's advice, of course), then you should discuss having Tamiflu on hand in case the flu hits when doctor/pharmacy is not available. Starting Tamiflu right away is VERY important.
That won't work because the H1N1 vaccine was not made in eggs, but in cell cultures.
Just tell them it is against your religion if you are adamantly against your children getting immunized, but then you should seriously consider geting a Tamiflu perscription from their doctor to have on hand to start if they get the flu.
They may treat you with contempt for your position on vaccines, but no one is going to force a civilian to take it. I can't guarantee you won't run into a Nurse Ratchet type who will be overbearing, but that is not official policy anywhere when dealing with civilians.
You are the one who has to live with your decisions and their results, not the medical staff.
Have you tried Robitussin PE?
You may have to show your driver's license to get this sudafed (pseudoephedrine) containing product. That will open up Eustachian tube and the guaifenesin will help liquify mucus so any in your middle ear will drain out the Eustachian tube.
I have tamiflu on hand. In the spring, 20% of their classmates came down with flu. I called and got tamiflu in case my daughter with asthma came down with it. I could only get one prescription of it. My daughter never got sick.
obama is saying to them, "you don't need the insurance companies. you've got us."
I took my Tamiflu and it worked really great and fast for me when I got the flu in July.
Still have my husband’s pills for when/if he gets it.
I was really grateful to have it on hand. Man, that flu causes PAIN.
Nice chart you have there, Dr.
Here’s what I’ve found on a preliminary hunt for evidence.
When googling the keywords, “swine flu tracker” or “tracking swine flu” or similar search terms, the first site one sees is from rhizalabs.
So you go to their site, and b/c you know your own BIG, PO’d country pretty well, you might click on the county map, which is here:
http://flutracker.rhizalabs.com/flu/by_US_county.html
ooo-interesting stuff, except it hasn’t been updated since August 18.
And that update was based on H1N1 incidents for July 22.
Obummer.
Back to the search results page you go. And you visit the next site,
swineflu tracker dot net, which is a CDC blog(wordpress).
Well, they don’t actually come out and identify themselves as a couple of overpaid, POS CDC employees(or 0bots) but it is easily deduced after a few minutes of looking around.
On to the hunt, back to the search results page.
By now, you may be interested in real-time data on tracking pig/swine flu, yes?
Well, here you go(or so they say):
http://www.swine-flu-tracker.com/
Clicking on the BIG, PO’d country at various locations gives you data from April 20s. April? Though there is one from May 2,way out west.
That site also has a possible attempt to harvest email addys, here: http://www.swine-flu-tracker.com/tell-a-friend-where-swine-flu-is.php
Odd? Check out this part:
Tell your friends about http:\\www.swine-flu-tracker.com so they can be aware when it comes to their neighborhood.
You can email up to 10 friends - each time you add a friend you will get another chance to email another one of your nearest and dearest.
WTF is that? I wonder.
Sorry for the long post, but I’m extremely ticked this weekend.
Anyways, I found a swineflu tracking site with October info,
http://www.healthmap.org/swineflu/
New England Journal of Medicine
top left corner of site, you have 2 options for H1N1 reports: 1. Informal sources(media) and 2. Official sources(ie WHO, CDC).
Click on option 2 and at bottom of bare big PO’d country is this:
* As of mid-July, reports are no longer available from official channels.
next box, left corner of site is very useful and that’s all I’m saying for now.
Good luck.
