I had Hong Kong flu that year, too, and it was the worst flu I ever had -— and I had a flu vaccine that year. Never had one since and never will again.

Something is wrong when 1,000 DEAD AMERICANS on American soil in the short span of a few months is no big deal.

millions of cases of infection and over 1,000 deaths

Personally, I DON'T think its a big deal. The number of deaths per number of cases is a very, very, very small mortality rate. The only reason this has any significance at all is the rate at which this pig flu is spreading and the attention it is being given by this administration.

Here's another thought for you: everybody that was home sick last week were probably working yesterday and everybody sick today will likely be back to work next week.......

If I were still working but not sick this would give me an opportunity to call in sick.....then if I did get sick in the future I could just blame it on a relapse......LOL!

We’re doing the same thing along with taking vitamin C.

Last year was a horrible year for my daughter with asthma. She was constantly getting sick, it would trigger her asthma, and it would take 2 weeks to get over it.

My other daughter was diagnosed with low vitamin d because she is on anti-seizure medication and that is one of the side effects.

I started reading about low vitamin d and how if affects the immune system. Now, all of us are taking it (at varying levels).

We’ll see if it helps.

"1250 μg (50,000 IU)/day for several months can produce toxicity." That is way high. I'm doing 5000IU Vit D3 and will increase it if flu symptoms appear

They have been screening in at least some European countries since early summer. We walked through thermoscanner machines in two airports in June.

People need to realize that the 36K number being used as the annual death rate for seasonal flu involves mostly the elderly who catch the flu and then deteriorate into pneumonia.

Any highly infectious illness that kills people in their 30's and 40's (even if that rarely happens) is serious business. Just because the government is completely inept doesn't mean this is some kind of joke.

There is a thread here in chat were folks have posted about being extremely ill. Others have said it wasn't so bad.

From http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/disease.htm

In the United States, on average 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu; more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from seasonal flu-related complications, and; about 36,000 people die from seasonal flu-related causes.

Math isn't my strong point, but doesn't that mean that an average of 3000 die per month? How is 1000 over a span of a few months worse?

Seasonal flu accounts for more that 1000 deaths annually IIRC.

I saw the number is about 35,000 a year in the US.

That’s what I am doing. 5000 IU per day. Where did you get the other number?

That is because in Chicago 1 in 5 children in the public school have the swine flu according to the news.

Very little of it around where I live in Oklahoma.

I am irritated because this Obama individual let it get out of hand because a) he would not do the recommended action at the time so many of us called for--if you visit the FR archives at the time you will recall--because it would have been "politically incorrect" (i.e. seal borders with Mexico where it broke out, completely); and b) laughed it off with some kind of lame joke about a horse out of a barn.

Now he has let it escalate to this point, and suddenly he goes to a national emergency? Then it all started with the little Mexican boy with his panicked illegal alien parents driving him 1/2 way across Texas to get him help; he dies in a hospital upon arriving. It just spreads and spreads.

That is why I am angry about the 1,000. That is a lot of people, real human beings, in my book. Same goes for all those thousands of Americans killed by illegal aliens, also due to open borders. Those aren just statistics, it is streams of Americans crying over their loved ones' open and closed caskets. I think these are just convenient deaths for our American government for an even larger, horrendous evil. (Open borders and loss of fundamental freedoms).

Some of you people are snarky about sick people not being tested or diagnosed with h1n1 but yet said to have it. You are being irrational.

It is a waste of money and medical resources to thoroughly diagnose h1n1. Every test would have to be sent away, costly, when most people would be well before the results were back.

The current Influenza A quick test (nasal swab) that all the doctors have is Useless!!! It has now been found to have a very very high false negative rate. It is wrong to give that test now, because people with h1n1 who get a negative result will spread it around more.

There is only one flu spreading like absolute wild fire in the US now. It makes total sense that at this point everyone with flu symptoms is considered to have it!!!!
