WASHINGTON (AFP) – President Barack Obama has declared swine flu a "national emergency," the White House said Saturday, as the United States reels from millions of cases of infection and over 1,000 deaths.

TV, so far as I know. But he is in Conneticut stumpbraking for dodd. An explaintion, for once, seems to be in order.

Could be problematic. All who get sick in my area are being told they aren’t testing for it. So unless they test only when someone dies, how can we be certain? Does anyone know at what point they stopped testing for it? I’ve heard it was for cost reasons, but possibly a way to keep exact numbers vague. Now that it’s been deemed an “emergency”, will they start testing again?
Sorry, more questions than answers from me...but I liked your post and it got me to thinking. I’m also very curious about the Emergency Powers Act.
I wonder if people were forced to wait just to make the lines look longer and so it appears there are more “victims.” This crew knows what it’s doing in terms of victims - it’s hard to say the crisis is manufactured without sounding hard-hearted and cold toward those who have the flu.

This is just one more reason why I’ve been trying to downplay the H1N1 hysteria around here.
We ARE NOT in the middle of a massive killer epidemic. People have just freakin wigged out on this.
Every 12 months or so there is another supposed killer that pops up. What gives? Evidently someone wants a killer epidemic awfully bad, to facilitate their agenda.
The CDC and the NIH should be ashamed of their operations in conjunction with H1N1. Never has a simple influenza been so over-hyped.
Might not be as sinister as some of the flu denying / government fearmongers are suggesting.
Besides I don't think Obama wants to kill us all with the flu shot. Judging by his recent appointments, Obama would rather inject us with something to make us all gay.
National Guard will be called out.
We will see if they would fire on the people, eh?

a. Call out Armed Forces
To suppress lawless violence, invasion or rebellion
Not subject to congressional approval or judicial review
President vested with full discretionary power to determine factual basis for calling out armed forces.

i. In cases of rebellion or invasion and when public safety so requires
ii. Applies only to persons judicially charged for rebellion or offenses inherent in or directly connected with invasion

I am in “upstateNY” (actually far southwestern NY) and when I visited my g
family practitioner about 6 weeks ago, I told him that I didn’t want the flu shot.
He told me then that there wouldn’t be flu shots available anyway. He knew they couldn’t get them ready on time. So why all the .gov hullaballoo?

You can’t find the number because they are not tracking H1N1 cases. Apparently the real number of cases were not meeting CDC’s expectations and hype so they issued an edict to stop tracking. CBS, no less, reported here:

Only flu shot was seasonal I am concern about swine flu shot too many mysteries for my taste
A friend of mines’ pregnant daughter and her two year old son were dx with swine flu Mon. Were both given tamiflu and both were back to school/work on Wed.Also I am a hospice nurse and all the docs we work with are telling us not to take the vaccine or our families.
