She should give lectures to the schools.
A pretty normal reaction, I would think. One of the things that separate us from the animals that prey on society is conscience and a basic respect for human life. I hope this woman makes peace with herself without too much further anguish. At the end of the day, she did what she had to do, and it’s no one’s fault but the perp’s for the way things turned out.
Feels sick? Heck, I’ll chip in for some flowers and ammo!
Ohio ping!
I wish this woman could live in that end of town for a few weeks—she might clean up the neighborhood!
I agree.
What a dear heart she has, prayers that she can find peace.
Ditto.
If she thinks she feels bad now, she should consider some of the things some robbers do to their victims.
Even if the mother is sleeping like a baby the son said exactly the right thing. You don't want to antagonize the thug's potentially thug family.
Just think how she’d be feeling if she didn’t defend herself.
I agree, but the ditto is true...most good people feel bad about shooting anybody, but sometimes you just have to — that’s the way it is.
Ditto.
A picture is worth 1,000 lectures. Yup yup.
I too, hope she makes peace. What a gracious and sensitive person to feel troubled over this incident.
But Lancey, your comment about the perps family was cruel!
Not every ‘thug’ has a disreputable family. Quite a few families have that ‘black sheep’ who gets in trouble with the law, is perrennailly in and out of prison, and left their family broken hearted. Now he is dead.
Don’t blame the family! It is the fault of that fool who tried to rob a roomful of people, not necessarily his mom and dad.
They guy she shot feels worse.
May this good lady find peace and comfort.
She needs someone to keep reminding her she made the world a better place for all of us and protected herself and her son from possible death.
Thank you for your service, your bravery, and your shooting skill!
She'd probably be arrested.
The comments section of the newspaper are 99% in support of granny.

He wasn’t blaming the family. He said the shooters son said the correct thing, trying to shield mom from potential civil liability.
He said “Potentially” thug family. It’s not cruel, it’s reality.
