A burka-wearing student has been banned from enrolling at a college after staff claimed the Muslim garment was a barrier to safety and communication.
Shawana Bilqes, 18, was forced to abandon her learning plans after she refused to remove the head-to-toe gown which reveals only her eyes.
She had been asked to show her face as a check to avoid identity fraud in case she was posing as someone else.
But when she explained she could not due to her religious belief she was forced off her Access course for an HE Diploma at Burnley College, Lancashire.
Today Miss Bilqes said: It is my choice to wear the veil.
I live around the corner from the college in an area where there are so many practising Muslims.
I tried to compromise but they wouldnt. The college sent me a latter to say I could continue with my course if I stopped wearing the veil.
We are in the 21st century and we get people from all walks of life. Im in the police cadets as well and yet its not a problem wearing the veil there.
Miss Bilqes was approached by a member of staff as she arrived at the college at the start of term to book in on her first day of study.
Now the school leaver is faced with looking elsewhere to gain her qualifications.

“Muslim student, 18, banned from college because she refuses to remove her burka”
What the hell is a jawa chick doing in college anyway?
The burka is ROUTINELY used as a disguise in the middle-east.
This is a complete no-brainer.
She’s not a victim. She’s provoker and a subversive, and the members of her family should be investigated.
“I tried to compromise”????
muzzies never compromise—they just blow up.
Not all of us are in the 21st century...
She took everything else off but?
The Muslim gang she runs with needs to be destroyed.
Then she will be free.
Yeah!
Why was she even allowed to attend HS?!
This ain’t Iran. Take off your space suit, toots, and we don’t have a problem. Besides, devout muslim chicks are supposed to be committed to idiocy. What’s she doing in college? She be lucky if some religion of peace nut doesn’t blow her to smitereens.
There is a very good reason why these women need to cover up.
"Im in the police cadets as well and yet its not a problem wearing the veil there."
She could always return to her native hell hole to attend college in the outfit of her choice. Oh wait. They do not allow women to attend college. Let me start again. She could always return to her native hell hole.
I guess the solution would be for the Filth of Islam to have their own colleges for women just like in Tehran, she could do online classes with on ground interviews and follow-ups to verify her activities.
Or in the alternative join the 2200 Century and get a real life. I have never met anyone in any religion in a Western country that does not appreciate modern conveniences and freedoms offered; in most cases they all drive nice cars, have cable/Dish HDTVs, Cellular Phones and computers without putting a bag over their heads.
If it’s a matter of faith, I’m sure her deity will work it all out for her.
Don’t they teach prayerful waiting in that religion?
OK, I’m done being catty.
“...the Muslim garment was a barrier to safety and communication.”
.
Wait until the first burka goes BOOOOM!! somewhere inside a shopping mall and kills a number of people. It’s only then that they will outlaw the wearing of it. Until that time, hope you won’t be one of the first victims.
Burka off Bitch
The passport picture is a bit fuzzy.
I’ll bet the police cadets won’t let a woman wear a cross. But they’ll let her completely hide her face.
Welcome to Eurabia.
BTW, if she only wanted to wear the headdress that covered her hair but left her face exposed (niqab, I think?), I’d have no problem with her leaving it on and attending college. But there’s nothing wrong with her having to expose her face—that’s just common sense.
