Just how effective has Sarah Palins intervention in the NY23 special election been? Douglas Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate that got Palins endorsement, raised $116,000 in a single day, according to a source within the campaign. The source told me to refer back to Chris Cillizzas coverage of the race at the Washington Post blog The Fix, which noted that Hoffman had raised $210,000 over the course of a week.
Stacy McCain confirmed this with another source in the campaign. He has a few updates as well on Democratic fundraising in the contest.
If nothing else, this confirms the power that Palin has with the conservative base. She can raise money hand over fist, even with some considerable negatives with other constituencies. If Hoffman winds up winning this election, Palin will become a very popular woman in the 2010 campaign, especially in Blue Dog Democrat districts where conservatives have grown appalled by the direction of a Democratic Congress. Even if he doesnt, this has been an impressive demonstration of influence and power.
Sarah Palin will need those Democrats in 2012. She is looking WAY ahead.
Wow, great!
DRF,when I saw that picture of Sarah, I was immediately struck with the thought of an expanded Mt. Rushmore, with the visages of Ronald Reagan and Sarah Palin.
Her features would look so good chiseled into the side of a mountain.
Good news that Sarah triggered high donations. Tonight’s local Syracuse news reported that Owens raised about $500,000 so far, and they reported the 210,000 figure for Hoffman. Dede’s in the mid 200’s. No mention of Sarah’s endorsement, or updated contribution figures.
A local show of debating professors was on PBS tonight. The Hoffman campaign came up. The lib profs called it a GOP circular firing squad. One prof mentioned Sarah’s endorsement. Another prof, who had just declared Fox News to not be a legitimate news outlet, said he hadn’t heard about the Palin endorsement. Well, duh. You won’t find out from the MSM.
Hoffman, on Glenn Beck’s radio show earlier in the week, said he helped Lake Placid get the 1980 Olympics and was the CFO for the games. He was in his 20’s. I haven’t heard that elsewhere, but thought it’s impressive.
Go Doug!
I don’t think they read letters at the RNC. Someone here on FreeRepublic made the observation that they probably search for the check in their mail and throw out everything else. This is especially true if you use the return envelope from one of their fund raising letters.

Oh I agree!! All they get from me are nasty letters telling them as long as they support RINOs and liberals calling themselves conservatives, I will send my money to real conservative candidates.
Here is what I am doing for my next message. I have scanned a check to Hoffman (I actually donated online, but I wrote a check for this message to the RNC). I obscured my account numbers at the bottom, and printed a two sided color copy. This has been trimmed to the size of the actual check, and across the face, in red sharpie, I wrote “I support Conservative candidates.” That “check” is going into the next RNC return envelope that I get.
It’s great to see everyone on here supporting Hoffman. This candidate is a test for the TEA Party movement and the 9-12ers. If we can push him to victory, the GOP will see that in addition to principles, conservatives have political power at the ballot box. Even a resounding defeat for Scozzafava would send that message. But a victory for Hoffman would be better.
Has everyone seen this: “The Most Important Number in Politics Today.”
Doug Hoffman is the Conservative alternative in this race (or Hoffman by PayPal).
Markos Moulitsas, founder of The Daily Kos has endorsed Scozzafava. Dede Scozzafava has also been endorsed by NYSUT, the largest labor union in New York, and an affiliate of the National Education Association.
Scozzafava also holds these positions:
Scozzafava has also run in past elections on the Working Families Party (a progressive party associated with ACORN) line on the ballot.
This lady isn’t a RINO, she is a big “R” libeRal democRat. Mark Steyn has coined the term DIABLO for her and others like her. Democrat In All But Label Only.
There are also at least 17 unprincipled DIABLO enablers in the house who have donated funds or otherwise supported to this LibeRal democRat's DIABLO’s campaign. They include Boehner, Cantor, Sessions, Hensarling, Brown-Waite and McCotter. I don’t have a full list, but I will be looking for it. These unprincipled enablers should be targeted for elimination in the primaries next year.
Also, perhaps those of us who donated to the RNC or RCCC should ask for our money back so we can support the conservative candidates of our choice.

I support Doug Hoffman for Congress (PayPal). Please, spread the word about this important election on November 3, 2009 in New York’s 23rd congressional district. |
