Breaking: Palin Supports Hoffman
The Weekly Standard ^ | October 22, 2009 08:17 PM | John McCormack

THE WEEKLY STANDARD just received a statement from Sarah Palin endorsing conservative Doug Hoffman for Congress:

The people of the 23rd Congressional District of New York are ready to shake things up, and Doug Hoffman is coming on strong as Election Day approaches! He needs our help now.

The votes of every member of Congress affect every American, so it's important for all of us to pay attention to this important Congressional campaign in upstate New York. I am very pleased to announce my support for Doug Hoffman in his fight to be the next Representative from New York's 23rd Congressional district. It's my honor to endorse Doug and to do what I can to help him win, including having my political action committee, SarahPAC, donate to his campaign the maximum contribution allowed by law.

Our nation is at a crossroads, and this is once again a "time for choosing."

The federal government borrows, spends, and prints too much money, while our national debt hits a record high. Government is growing while the private sector is shrinking, and unemployment is on the rise. Doug Hoffman is committed to ending the reckless spending in Washington, D.C. and the massive increase in the size and scope of the federal government. He is also fully committed to supporting our men and women in uniform as they seek to honorably complete their missions overseas.

And best of all, Doug Hoffman has not been anointed by any political machine.

Doug Hoffman stands for the principles that all Republicans should share: smaller government, lower taxes, strong national defense, and a commitment to individual liberty.

Political parties must stand for something. When Republicans were in the wilderness in the late 1970s, Ronald Reagan knew that the doctrine of "blurring the lines" between parties was not an appropriate way to win elections. Unfortunately, the Republican Party today has decided to choose a candidate that more than blurs the lines, and there is no real difference between the Democrat and the Republican in this race. This is why Doug Hoffman is running on the Conservative Party's ticket.

Republicans and conservatives around the country are sending an important message to the Republican establishment in their outstanding grassroots support for Doug Hoffman: no more politics as usual.

You can help Doug by visiting his official website below and joining me in supporting his campaign:

This statement will be on Palin's Facebook page soon.

This kind of self seeking behaviour by Palin only gets Democrats elected.

Sad, this is not going to advance conservative agenda in any form.

Palin is the closest to Ronald Reagan

Many on FR don’t get it when it comes to the Conservative Party in New York. It is Conservative Republican.
and Hoffman will caucus with the Republicans.

Mrs Palin is unselfish and hardly "self seeking". Your statement is not only false the last part is nonsense. Her endorsement, along with people like Michele Bachmann, may just garner the victory for Hoffman.

Lets see what happens on election night, polls suggest that the Dem is heading for a easy win.

Third party candidates have a poor track record in winning elections.

How does getting a Republican like that woman in the race elected advance the conservative agenda? How does Newt sitting on the green global warming sofa with Pelosi advance the agenda?

If you were looking for a way to come out of the closet, and show us just how much of a RINO and a nut you are, you've done it bigtime!

Sarah has already proven she can get candidates elected. She did it for Chambliss, who had been written off as a loss.

Palin just drove a stake through the heart of ANY Republican that supports the RINO...and threw down the gauntlet for leadership of the GOP.

The "establishment" GOP better get onboard, or it's "overboard" for them.

If the GOP doesn't straighten up, even I...one who has voted straight GOP...in EVERY ELECTION since 1976...will support a 3rd party.

As a native of California and who worked for Reagan when he first ran for gov.,
he would Not win a state race here today.

There are more Dems than GOP and the Ron Paul type loons take away from Republicans.

This is the same in many states

“Right now, the primaries in 2010 are the only reason I am still affiliated with the GOP.”

I know how you feel. The primaries might not be enough to keep my affiliation.

Could this be a sign Palin may disavow her affiliation with the OP(formerly the GOP)?

I hope she visits the district for an actual stump speech; it could put Hoffman over the top. What a coup it would be.

I would love to see a member of Congress with a “C” for Conservative after his name for a change. Once a Conservative could break through the inertia of always voting Democrat or Republican, it could start a chain reaction movement to a Conservative party. This wouldn’t happen over night but it could gradually grow to a big movement.

You dont get your agenda advanced if you are not in office.

Unless Conservatives can get elected to office( which will not happen with third parties), there is no point in whining about it.

'Sarah has already proven she can get candidates elected. She did it for Chambliss, who had been written off as a loss.' Well duh...Chambliss is a Republican and backed by the establishment.

Hoffman is not and a third party candidate. Use some logic for a change.

To Hoffman supporters, winning the special election is a secondary goal. The primary goal is to teach the RINOs in Congress a lesson. Conservatives outside the Beltway are fed up with GOP leadership.

The dont complain when Dems eventually pass the public option with their expanded Congressional majority while you are teaching Republicans a lesson.
