CNN Poll: Majority of the Country Disagrees With Obama on Issues
CNN ^ | Tuesday, October 20, 2009 | Paul Steinhauser

For the first time since he took over in the White House, Americans don't see eye to eye with President Barack on the important issues, according to a new national poll. But the CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey does indicate that a majority approve of how Obama's handling his duties as president.

According to the poll, which was released Tuesday, 48 percent of people questioned say that they agree with Obama on the issues that matter most to them, with 51 percent saying no. That's a switch from April, when 57 percent said they agreed with the president on important issues, with 41 percent disagreeing.

"Obama is facing crunch time on a number of controversial issues, from health care to financial regulation to cap and trade to Afghanistan," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "The fact that most Americans no longer agree with him on important issues makes his task harder."

Fifty-five percent of those questioned say they approve of how Obama's handling his duties, with 43 percent disapproving. The 55 percent approval rating is down 3 points from September. Most recent national polls place the president's approval rating in the low to mid 50's.

"Obama continues to do poorly among senior citizens," says Holland. "Most Americans over the age of 65 disapprove of how he is handling his job as president."

The poll also suggests that two out of three Americans say Obama has the qualities a president should have, down 12 points from April - one indication the Nobel Peace Prize may not have helped him much in that regard.

Most Americans, 56 percent, don't approve of the Norwegian Nobel Committee's decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Barack Obama, and only a third believe that Obama has done enough to deserve the prize.

Note: The CNN headline says 'half the country disagrees with Obama on the issues. However, 51% is a majority and we all know that if this were President Bush the headline would read 'Majority.' So, majority it is.

We don’t agree with him, but we hate this country and people of faith so we totally back his agenda ..

I’m going to guess that the question they asked that let to an approval rating regarding his duties of office: “Do you agree that he wakes up in the White House some mornings and walks down to his office to sit behind his desk?” Yes...

Well, gosh and gee whiz, this just means that a majority of Americans are Neanderthals who lack the intellect to understand our commie masters.

How can one disagree with him on the issues but think he’s doing a good job?

DUH!!!! ????????????????????????????????????

Does this make sense, or have Americans become so stupidly politically correct that they feel they have to like a President merely because he is a “minority” even though they feel he is total @$$????

Keep in mind liberals are disappointed in him, so some are turning up in these polls as negatives. That’s why he is attacking FNC to stay in campaign mode, and those evil Health Insurance companies too. TO Get the base worked up again to rally for him.

GWB had a similar problem with us.

66% believe hes presidential? why? because theres nothing on his desk? because he can’t make a decision? because he runs a smear machine?

It sounds like a line from a familiar movie...

Raymond Shaw (I mean, Barack Obama) is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I’ve ever known in my life. (The Manchurian Candidate, 1962)

This seems to be the case with a lot of people I talk to. They'll say things like, “I disagree with Obama about this...”, or “I have a problem with what he's doing with...”, but in the same breath, they say they still “like” him. There is this overhang of “I like him personally” that I don't get. I see nothing to like about a man who does the things Obama does and believes the things he says he does. Maybe it's all just appearances, like all this crap about how Obama is “handsome”. Again, I don't see it. To me he looks like a skinny dude with big ears and big teeth.

Most Americans still blame GWB and the GOP for our nation's woes. It will be a while before BHO and the Dems get the full blame.

let's be honest, BHO walked into a mess left behind by the GOP. Granted, he is making it worse but it will catch up to him, eventually

When CNN poll is almost 10 points less favorable for Obama than the crap that ABC/WaPo put out yesterday, you get a sense of how out of touch the ABC poll really was.

Much or most of that mess was created by dems frank and dodd, and pelosi et al after 06. Obama himself may not have caused it, but his supporters and peers did, and he is definitely making it worse.
