Karl Rove, former top adviser to President George W. Bush, bluntly accused President Barack Obama of deliberately "destabilizing" the government of Afghanistan, in an interview this morning on the Fox News Channel.
Rove said Obama sent Democratic party henchman James Carville to help the campaign of one of President Hamid Karzai's opponents for the August presidential election.
An article by NPR last summer says Carville's strategy was to drag the election in to a runoff to aid his candidate, former World Bank official Ashraf Ghani.
Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel made remarks this weekend that questioned whether the Obama administration would send more troops to Afghanistan if the Karzai government remained in power, reported here by Politico:
"Do you have a credible Afghan partner for this process that can provide the security and the type of services that the Afghan people need?" Emanuel said the Obama White House is asking as it conducts a strategy review before answering Gen. Stanley McChrystal's request for more troops.
Transcript (by yours truly) of Rove's comments:
Take a look at what this administration has done. They have destabilized the Afghan government by saying you know what we're not certain that Karzai is a good partner for us.
And the Obama administration sent in James Carville, Democrat party operative, in order to handle the campaign of Karzai's opponent. And then they express surprise when Karzai is trying to cut side deals with the remaining warlords and regional powers in Afghanistan in order to make certain he has a power base if the Americans pull the rug out from underneath him.
I mean its really unusual that this administration is so quick to criticize the Bush administration when they are really destabilizing the regime in Afghanistan in a fundamental way.

You made your priorities very clear.
No, you didn’t. If you had, you would have paid attention to the only point that mattered to those trying to understand what’s going on politically, which you obviously missed because of your enduring and abiding love of all things Bush and/or Republican.
Gee, no wonder they call you bustinchops.
I am duly humbled, chastened, humiliated, etc. etc.
NOT!
I throw nobody under the bus. Couldn’t care less what any of them have to say, don’t pin any of my hopes on them, and don’t think it’s wise to emotionally invest in ANYONE
in the political realm as it exists, refuse to get tied up in knots over whether Romney is better than Giuliani is better than Lindsey Graham or John McCain, in this way or that way, or any way, or who would make a better running mate for who. And so on, ad infinitum. I will not participate in this tabloid-level spectator sport that politics has become/ I think WE have to stand on our own two feet, and find our OWN way, and start taking action, as we begin to identify what is actually in OUR own interest, and not some politician’s idea of our own interest. The events of the past year should have woken lots of people up, but they apparently haven’t, since everyone is still thinking in terms of the structures of Establishment politics. And for you to even provisionally identify me as a “Pub”, shows me you didn’t get what I was saying at all. Bye now.
You made your priorities clear in your first post. It was not to condemn Obama for putting us, and more importantly our troops at risk. It was to say dirty things about Karl Rove.
I don't need to argue this point any further. You said what you said. Sorry for seeing what was there and not pretending you didn't say what you did indeed say.
I'm an honest person, EV. If that offends you, too bad.
Actually, this may be their way out of Afghanistan. Put in a "duly elected president in a free and fair election" who says USA go home. Then what do you do, you go home.
Thank you kristinn for this report.
I prefer to hear the truth too. We conservatives are not the ones who need to be won over at the voting booth. It’s the other folks out there.
And no getting around it...Karl Rove is not the best choice for TV interviews now.
Of course, it just takes a treaty to overrule that minor detail.
Could be worse, I suppose...with no need to show a birth certificate, he could choose one of his Mexican buddies.
Is this an actual ROE? What is its provenence?

Type the words Obama ROE in a search engine
These “Rules of engagement” are on only one of your sources, the Wordpress blog, and even there these “rules” are not sourced, or even explicitly claimed to be “official.”
If these actually ARE the official ROE for all troops, they are an abomination. If I am going to get upset about ROEs, It must be about what the real, official, ROE; not something dreamed up by some blogger. It would have been better for you to have published nothing, than to publish something spurious.
Does anybody have a fully sourced, official set of the ROE?
DG
I posted two news articles. The image of ROE’s is saying what the news has reported.
yes this is a blog
But what you missed was the blogs/NYPost et al are posting off of the 60 minutes interview.
I don’t think this is being made up but you are wishful thinking if you think will see this on CNN et al.
Interesting expression on his face. He’s playing with the big dogs now.
It is like anything else re: Obama. If it is critical of him the MSM won’t report it.

I spoke directly with someone within the military, the ROE’s are real but just like booter stress cards they are being ignored. Now if they would send the troops funding instead of worrying about blubber Teddy getting a building with his name on it. Or even a seasoned CIC would be nice.
The issue is this: until we have an official document, spelling out the actual, real ROE, we are forced to make judgments based on articles and blogs. MSM reports probably will never produce such a document and they usually lack any military experience, and bloggers (for all we know) are giving their own assessment, not of the actual ROE, but w what somebody told them.
I have no doubt that the current ROE are faulty, but the only way to make any such judgment is to see the actual, official, printed ROE.
