Gallup wonders: What happened to Sarah Palin’s favorable rating?

Worth posting if only to lay down a marker about where her favorables were before the book was released. At 40/50, there’s nowhere to go but up. Hopefully.

Palin became a bit of a sensation after John McCain tapped her as his running mate last August. But over the course of the campaign, her image suffered, going from a 53% favorable rating immediately after the 2008 Republican National Convention to 42% by the end of the campaign.

Palin’s ratings have not recovered, and her current 40% favorable rating is the lowest for her since she became widely known after last year’s Republican convention…

Palin could compete for the 2012 nomination because she is still widely liked by Republicans — 69% have a favorable opinion of her while only 25% view her unfavorably. But she may have difficulty succeeding in the general election, given that Democrats have overwhelmingly negative opinions of her, and independents view her more negatively than positively.

They offer no explanation for the slide but it’s not a mystery. Follow the link and see for yourself when the divergence between her favorable and unfavorable numbers started to grow. Anything important happen this past July? It’s not just Gallup either. If you scan Pollster.com’s poll of polls on her net favorables dating back to last year, you’ll find that she was pretty near even as recently as … mid-July, when suddenly the slide begins. In fact, Gallup’s numbers today are actually an improvement for her: The last three polls taken showed her approval in the 30s and her disapproval in the mid-50s. Proof positive, I guess, that her resignation has resonance with voters and will be a major issue in the primaries if she runs. I’ll bet Huck’s gaming out the “America can’t afford a quitter” ads as we speak.

If my family were getting attacked I would defend them and go after whoever was attacking them. Not run away like a whipped dog.

Her book isn’t actually OUT yet, so the buzz hasn’t really hit. Of course, when it does, the usual suspects will be out there sniping. But she’ll also be out there doing interviews, etc, so more folks will actually get to hear and see her. As she is able to explain her views on the issues, and people see the stark contrast between her and Obama, I think her numbers will start to go up among Republicans, but also among those vaunted Independents who have dumped Obama.

Odumbo has placed the bar really low so he is not a good example but you do have some valid points. Iran and NK are laughing at the USA so she cannot do worse then odumbo

What comments? I am not seeing anything and I read Drudge and Free Republic threads constantly.

She needs exposure, how else can she build a larger following?

She will soon HAVE to go on tour to promote her book.

No shows at the Reagan library, the AK abortion parental consent rally, 9-12 Tea Parties, and the Value Voter Summitt might have played roles in her drop in approvals among conservatives.

You apparently do not know that she had never committed to attend ANY of those events, and may not have even been invited. And far from 'hiding out' on Facebook, those of us who have connected to her account enjoy her comment pieces. She has also had opinion pieces published in the Wall Street Journal and National Review online, not exactly hiding.

1. No shows at the Reagan library

Group “invited her” and promoted her with her consent.

2. The AK abortion parental consent rally

Had a previous engagement....see #1

3. 9-12 Tea Parties

9-12 DC wasn’t about her, nor would she try to co-opt it (She’s too classy for that, and the spin from all points would had painted her badly)

4. Value Voter Summitt might have played roles in her drop in approvals among conservatives.

“Private party”...Palin need not apply, nor was welcomed (like the DC fundraiser where the estalbishment and RINO didn’t want her). Huckster stacked the vote it like a deck of cards. Kind of busy finsing the book.

Book...REMEMBER THE BOOK....kind of like a springboard.

Over 1000 speech requests and her star is rising. The ability think thigs out will reveal there’s a PR war to destroy her and paint her into a corner. Have some faith and let HER decide what she really wants to do.

And while Mittens and Huckster slather and blather, the huntress stalks and prepares for the hunt.

Those that support Palin, support her strongly. I suspect that many, if not most, hold to the same wait and see approach that I have. I'm not completely sold on Palin. I think that she would make a great secretary in the President's cabinet, but I have doubts about her readiness for POTUS. There a still serious doubts among many older men whether any woman can or should be POTUS. Palin certainly has time to prove to the electorate that she is fully capable of being POTUS, and I suspect that she is aware of the situation.

Why do you think she should be publishing something all the time? I'm on her Facebook list, so I see when she has an opinion piece there. It's once or twice a week; just enough. As I said in another post, she's also had pieces in the Wall Street Journal and National Review Online. They were good pieces; well thought out.

I hope she'll make herself available to folks running for Congress in 2010. I'm sure wherever she goes, that candidate will haul in the contributions.

Huckabee knew that he needed “name recognition” if he was to overtake Sarah Palin .. voila!! a talk show on TV where he can spew his version of Republicanism .. because he’s definitely not a conservative.

Suzi, I and millions like me, have no desire to join Facebook. My kids are on Facebook, lol.

She needs to be out where the public can see and hear her. I like her very much, as you can see by my animations, but I’m just not ‘hearing’ anything from her.

Palin’s Facebook postings are read only by her fans and haters. Right leaning, non-Palin fans and independents are unaware of her Facebook postings. Palin has to take the initiative to reach out to them. That can be done thru traditional media - Leno, NBC Today, Meet the Press - and new media - Fox News and talk radio.
