Gallup wonders: What happened to Sarah Palin’s favorable rating?

Worth posting if only to lay down a marker about where her favorables were before the book was released. At 40/50, there’s nowhere to go but up. Hopefully.

Palin became a bit of a sensation after John McCain tapped her as his running mate last August. But over the course of the campaign, her image suffered, going from a 53% favorable rating immediately after the 2008 Republican National Convention to 42% by the end of the campaign.

Palin’s ratings have not recovered, and her current 40% favorable rating is the lowest for her since she became widely known after last year’s Republican convention…

Palin could compete for the 2012 nomination because she is still widely liked by Republicans — 69% have a favorable opinion of her while only 25% view her unfavorably. But she may have difficulty succeeding in the general election, given that Democrats have overwhelmingly negative opinions of her, and independents view her more negatively than positively.

They offer no explanation for the slide but it’s not a mystery. Follow the link and see for yourself when the divergence between her favorable and unfavorable numbers started to grow. Anything important happen this past July? It’s not just Gallup either. If you scan Pollster.com’s poll of polls on her net favorables dating back to last year, you’ll find that she was pretty near even as recently as … mid-July, when suddenly the slide begins. In fact, Gallup’s numbers today are actually an improvement for her: The last three polls taken showed her approval in the 30s and her disapproval in the mid-50s. Proof positive, I guess, that her resignation has resonance with voters and will be a major issue in the primaries if she runs. I’ll bet Huck’s gaming out the “America can’t afford a quitter” ads as we speak.

Because she’s kept mum about any possible Presidential bid.

What has she been doing lately, I hate Twitter and never hear much about her? Is she making any speeches lately?

I think it’s good that she is not talking about a presidential bid, but it would be good if she could find more avenues to get her message directly to the public about the important issues. Facebook, twitter, and the book are great, but unless people are already fans, I don’t think she will connect with them by those means. Hopefully, she will make the rounds on talk radio to promote the book, I think that it would be good exposure.

Allah Pundut does some good stuff at Hotair but she is unquestionably anti-Palin. I don’t expect everyone to love Palin but Allah always takes any chance even if it involves a polling unit that is notoriously off-the-mark with it’s adult-only polling and consistent near-to-last-place finishes on pre-election day Presidential polls.

maybe im stupid.

But why and how can someone view Sarah Palin “negatively”

even if you disagree with her politics. wouldn’t you have a positive opinion of her as a person ?

Let me ask you a question.

If your family was under the personal attack she was under and going bankrupt, would you have stayed in Alaska ?

"involves a polling unit that is notoriously off-the-mark with it’s adult-only polling and consistent near-to-last-place finishes on pre-election day Presidential polls."

While I agree that Gallup is next worthless, Pollster actually does have a good track record with respect to accuracy. As you may know, they are the "poll of the polls". While it's true that it was founded by a former Democrat pollster, the last published poll they had before the election, was pretty good. I believe they were just 1% off where Obama actually ended up, and they predicted 52% rather than the 53% where he finished. Plus, they're quite transparent about what polls they include in their sample. There's a lot, and a fair percentage of GOP-friendly polls.

If you're not a follower of Pollster, they're worth a look.

I think Palin’s resignation and hiding out on Facebook, made quite a few conservatives to sour on her. No shows at the Reagan library, the AK abortion parental consent rally, 9-12 Tea Parties, and the Value Voter Summitt might have played roles in her drop in approvals among conservatives.

In order her Palin to shift her poll numbers, she needs to conduct hard hitting, wide ranging interviews with Bill O’Reilly, Chris Wallace, and David Gregory. Palin could also do an hour long interview on C-Span. Those interviews are fair and not subject to garbage editing. Maybe now is not the time for her to do those interviews. Perhaps she should do the speaking circuit for a couple of years and see how she’s received before making a any decision on running. But should Palin decide to run, doing the Sunday Pundit shows are a must for her. If Palin can’t handle George Stephie or David Gregory, then how can she handle Obama in a debate or worse Iran or North Korea?
