White House communications director Anita Dunn fired back at criticism from TV commentator Glenn Beck on Friday, saying that a Mao Tse-tung quote Beck took issue with was picked up from legendary GOP strategist Lee Atwater.
"The Mao quote is one I picked up from the late Republican strategist Lee Atwater from something I read in the late 1980s, so I hope I don't get my progressive friends mad at me," Dunn told CNN.

I think they scrambled at the last minute to try to dig up an association with a Republican.
If Atwater DID actually use that quote, I’ll bet he didn’t introduce it as having come from one of his “favorite political philosophers.”
Sure, she blames a dead guy for a quote praising a notorious mass murderer, one that she obviously admired (not the dead guy, but the mass murderer).
Rule # 1 when you find yourself in a hole is to stop digging.

Beck’s remark stung!
Atwater? The video shows her saying Mao was one of the two most influential people in her life.
Wonder whether she can produce proof that the quote came from Atwater?
Hot Air claims she is on the way out and that is why she was given the task of being the Fox attack dog.
I liked this part too, sounds like she's apologizing to her use full idiots for having to apologize
Light weight whiners and crybabies to be more exact. ;-)
Lying commie scum award!
Let's she if she can produce the quotes. It can't have been after 1991.
Beck mentioned this (she is on the way out—i.e.: that she was soon to be leaving) when he read the NYT article about Dunn. Forgot the exact date/day of the show.
Too bad Anita Dumb was captured on video.
She’s lying through her teeth.
I think the quote she is meaning is the part about favorite philosopher and using it as sarcasm. Atwater supposedly used that term.
After what they did to Limbaugh..I want to see PROOF of the quote.
I almost didn’t recognize her in that picture with out her forked tongue slithering in and out of her mouth.
It's just something she read somewhere
Two separate people called Steve Marlberg’s show after he played her audio from Glenn’s show. They said she made some kind of facial movements like a schizophrenic in the video Glenn showed.
>>> The fact that the Whor* House is in an on going argument with radio/tv talk show host is too funny, sad but too funny. <<<<
It’s pathetic, isn’t it?
Amateur hour.
Lee Atwater perhaps wanted to ‘know your enemy’.
Carrying pictures of Chairman Mao,
You ain’t gonna make with anyone, anyhow....
It ain’t gonna be alright.
this moron should go bye bye if for no other reason than I’d never have to see again, even by accident, her ugly tongue come out and lick her lips, like I had to witness about 30 times in that horrid video.
As for Beck’s criticism: “The use of the phrase ‘favorite political philosophers’ was intended as irony, but clearly the effort fell flat at least with a certain Fox commentator whose sense of irony may be missing.”
Weasle twisting, so was mother teresa irony too?
I don’t think her progressive friends will hate her
for it they think just like her after all.
I was in Vietnam during the cultural Revolution and
we could get Bejing on the short wave it was truely
scarey to listen to, but don’t feel like you have
missed anything. Once they shut down Rush and Beck
we’ll be hearing the same thing on our radios during
Obama’s third term.
Yeah, pick Lee Atwater. He’s dead and can’t refute it. Lee Atwater would no sooner say Mao was his inspiration than he would have voted for 0bama.
It was like the Heath’s Joker. Watch some of the clips..he did the same thing.
