Sarkozy says no more French troops

UPI) -- President Nicolas Sarkozy of France says he wants to see victory in Afghanistan but has no plans to send more French troops to that country.

Speaking to the Le Figaro newspaper, the French leader said he believes there should be a build-up of more Afghan troops, CNN reported.

As for staying on in Afghanistan, Sarkozy told the newspaper: "I answer yes -- and stay to win.

"But France will not send one more soldier," he added. "My belief is that more Afghan soldiers are needed. It is them who will be the most efficient to win this war because it is their country."

About 3,070 French troops, part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force, are in Afghanistan.

Britain announced plans this week to send an additional 500 soldiers, raising its Afghan troop strength to 9,500. The United States, which will have 68,000 troops in the country by year's end, is considering another troop surge there.

Just wait until this Lisbon Treaty is ratified and then we can count out the Brits as well. The Europeans are complete deadbeats.

I can’t say that I really blame him. The indecisiveness and weak leadership from the Obama administration in its efforts in Afghanistan are blatantly obvious. The French and the rest of our allies know he may well pull out of this war soon, so why put any additional troops of their own at risk for nothing?

Afghanistan is a NATO operation. France is not part of NATO.

Yes they are. They weren't part of the military command since the sixties, but Sarkozy announced their decision to rejoin that in March.

No, he’s attempting to pull the same thing there as he does here. Being absolute ruler while the press sucks up to him. I am sure not winning the olympics came as a blow and then winning the Nobel completely puffed up his ego. I said time and time again that he would try to pull stuff like telling other world leaders what to do and he’s not so much taking our allies for granted as treating his allies like they are servants to do what our Dear Leader tells them to do.

This idiot is literally dictating stuff to (as I’ve said countless times before) men who are ruthless butchers and people who have killed people with their own hands in the past. Once Zero believes himself to be an ‘elder statesman’ he’s going to get more and more presumptuous until he gets us embroiled in some serious diplomatic crisis and possible war. Zero apparently thinks that these people do not understand how the ‘real world’ works, as if people like Putin, Merkel, and Jintao are all just a bunch of spoiled bourgeoisie that need some politically correct enlightenment.

He’s mistaking their courtesy and friendliness and restraint for the belief that they are simple minded, childlike, and also very naive. Stalin felt the same about Mao and our politicians made the same mistake about Stalin. We tried to dictate to Stalin how to runs his country on the mistaken impression that his joviality meant he was like Truman and Stalin mistakenly thought Mao was this little man who would run China according to the interests of the Soviet state.

I get the feeling that we are not seeing a lot of war refugees from Afghanistan is that the Taliban will kill anyone who dares to pack a suitcase.

They are using these potential refugees as shields against any possible tactical weapon being used against them. And our ROE's ensure that will continue indefinitely.

Those who think that by causing some collateral damage, we would be losing the support of the "civilians" are idiots.

We do not have the support of the "civilian" population because they fear the Taliban more than they fear us.

HUH? France is being destroyed by Arabs...

That was jock crackhead's doing. Sarkozy has been the lone voice in the wilderness against unchecked muslim immigration for as long as I can remember. Do a search, it's packed with news on the "hard line against muslims" Sarkozy.

He's hated by all the right people.

The ROE’s take a back seat to any real threat to America.

A real threat will shove lousy ROEs to the side eventually.

Why should we?

Do you remember 911?

I don't know why you are ignoring the fact that the Traitor of the United States is doing his level best to make this conflict unwinnable. Very few people miss the point that suggesting our military is a bunch of knuckledraggers who purposely or carelessly bomb civilians tends to decimate morale - (not to mention the outright condemnation of our efforts in the ME for years before he bought his seat), as does sending Hamas terrorists 20 million dollars during his 1st week in office, effing over our allies at every opportunity, and IMPOSING NEW ROE'S THAT MAKE THIS A SUICIDE MISSION!

Have you really missed all this, or are you just bored and want to antagonize people?

Our military and most civilians want to win this war, and ASAP.

Obama needs another crises so he can attain more power, and is in the process of disarming our deterrents.

Think on that for awhile.

Cripes, that is the reason I want them out, this Kenyan Marxist isn’t interested in protecting our guys. Are you sick?

I remember 9/11...tell me again, how did the TALIBAN fly into the towers? Did they PLAN it? Did they Fund it? Did they EXECUTE it? No? That was Al Queda, right?

So, you think that because a couple hundred 7th century camel jockeys that rule a third world shithole with fear and terrible violence, who decided to let Al Q set up shop in their TRIBAL lands are going to march up Broadway on their Battle Camels and strike us again?

Get real. This is BS. We have no dog in this fight. Go to Pakistan and mop them up. We don’t need to fight these fing ragheads, we need to kill their land under their opium poppies and kill the Al Queda responsible for 9/11. THAT is why we went that hell hole in the first place, not to try to create a nation where none exists.

AQ needed a willing host. The Taliban was eager to be that host. They are just as willing now, and very obviously emboldened.

Absolving the Taliban of complicity in 9/11 and putting on blinders to the consequences of leaving them standing is so Clintonesque.

That weak logic and uncommitted stance is precisely how we ended up with 9/11 in the 1st place.

Bullshit. They aren’t absolved. They are just given the credit they deserve.

At this time, I am 100% committed to victory in Afghanistan. This victory will require some “out of the box” thinking. Our long term success depends on undermining the male dominated, militant, islamofascist, sharia culture endemic to this region. providing free college educations to the oppressed women of this country is in no way equivalent to providing free educations to illegal aliens because this serves our purpose as much as it does t theirs. Whatever it costs, it is a small price to pay compared to the cost of losing this region to the Taliban and al queda. I can fully appreciate anyone’s anger over our illegal alien problem but this issue is separate as far as I’m concerned. This isn’t about warm and fuzzies, this is about succeeding where we need to succeed. Bombs can’t win this in the long run. The only way to win is to subvert the status quo, to undermine forever any popular support that the Taliban or al queda might enjoy.

“At this time, I am 100% committed to victory in Afghanistan.”

I am sorry to hear that. The Marxist bleat of “Afghanistan is the central front in the war on terror” seems to be working. Al Q is no longer there; they were drawn into the trap in Iraq and slaughtered. Taliban? Dupes. But they will fight until every last one of them is dead. They will.

You can root for their slaughter, but there is no glory in killing dupes. The Kenyan and the media that elected him have done a fine job in convincing people that “Afghanistan is the central front in the war on terror” to discrdit and deride the President and the people who fought a brilliant campaign in Iraq.

Now, it seems, they have proven the old adage that if you repeat a lie often enough people will believe it. This is a pity. Because some of US are now supporting The Kenyan and his lies. And yes, it is really that simple.

Afghanistan has no structure upon which to build. It is a 7th century society, and the Karzai regime is so corrupt the people will never see a dime of our aid. We can not do what you suggest, however noble it is; and I believe it is. But this is a reality. “Afghanistan is the central front in the war on terror” was a catchy phrase in an election, but it is a lie. Pure and simple and in a country with no national allegiance, in impenetrable moonscape that will not be conquered without massive casualties and civilians slaughtered by the Taliban themselves, before they will allow the mission you envision to be accomplished, you will kill those people with good intentions.

Why do you think we never fully committed to Afghanistan? Why do you think there was so little attention paid and so few casualties taken? The Kenyan has killed more than Bush did in six years. The war wasn’t intended to be fought there. It was purely symbolic and a feint to draw the REAL Jihadists (our REAL enemy) into Iraq, where they though they could win the hearts and minds, like the Viet Cong did. They were wrong.

They misunderestimated our Commander in Chief.

They do not underestimate this coward in the White House. He will get our men killed to protect his narcissistic need to be proven correct and he will do it with or without your support. I would prefer he do it on his own and own it, because he was wrong in his campaign and he is wrong now.
