Rescuers are tracking and chasing a "homemade flying saucer" that is in flight with a 6-year-old, by himself, on board.
The incident started this morning in Fort Collins when the boy got into the balloon-like device, which was built by an adult, and it came loose from a tether, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The contraption could rise as high as 10,000 feet, the sheriff's office said.
The home-made flying saucer was last seen in flight over Weld County.
The sheriff's office is working the Federal Aviation Administration to determine how to best get the boy down.

I didn’t notice any joking but he did sound like he was trying to do a bad folksy Dan Rather-type impersonation. I’m so glad Neil took over. Shep is so over the top.
Apparently the 6-year-old was on the "Wife Swap" show with them! How sick is that?? (assuming it's true)
Sorry, I didn’t see your post to me. :-)
A lot of “nothing” has happened......except questions at this point though.
When my son was 2 yrs. old he used to take the hinge pins out of the doors. He’s 30 now and a mechanic.
Just relaying info, not making it up. :)
Someone reporting that “witness” on the ground saw “something falling from the balloon in Lamar County.
He probably wasnt in it.
Either something is fishy..or the kid is hiding. I have 3 6 year old grandkids, 2 are boys. I could see them hiding after they had done something they think was bad.
Husband is supposed to be coming in at 4 p.m. to DIA. I wonder if his plane will be delayed?
LOL>... .
“Our youngest would have definitely pulled something like this. His son, now 6, spent the summer with us. Not only would our grandson have taken off in the balloon, he would have built it first, given the science and supplies. True, we did keep an extra eye on both of them...but still...kids are kids, and some are much more daring than others.”
That is the kind of kid that I am, and I had brothers and friends who would help, and I raised one of them, too!
...”huh? Helicopters push air down”
You forgot, This Is ObamaWorld.

Helium has to lift way more than one gram per cubic meter.
Well dang. Maybe I’ll start doing the stuff I’m supposed to then. I’ll leave it on and flip to FOX during commercials and do chores. LOL
You right, it’s did not appear as though the balloon was holding weight, however it would be hard to ignore the reports of, “Small kid on board”.
“OK, they aint normal”
As a firefighter friend of mine stated, without dumbasses (and arsonists), he’d have nothing to do.
I have no idea, no one does at this point and everything is speculation.
Even with pictures, some still claimed it was a hoax, until the funeral took place
The 7 year old brother said he saw him get into the balloon, that makes it sound serious.
They were on the show Wife Swap, I think I just heard that?
This reminds me of my wedding. We had planned to be married in a hot air balloon. But my wedding date was 9/16/2001 and because of the 9/11 tragedy all aircraft was banned from flying unless they had a special box of some type and special permission and air space was restricted, etc.. Hence, we could not take off in the hot air balloon. We lifted only about 4 feet off the ground, for the sake of pictures. But no flight, and no wedding in the sky as planned. Of course, I was not angry, I sincerely understood. But it changed the plans just the same.
