Rescuers are tracking and chasing a "homemade flying saucer" that is in flight with a 6-year-old, by himself, on board.
The incident started this morning in Fort Collins when the boy got into the balloon-like device, which was built by an adult, and it came loose from a tether, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The contraption could rise as high as 10,000 feet, the sheriff's office said.
The home-made flying saucer was last seen in flight over Weld County.
The sheriff's office is working the Federal Aviation Administration to determine how to best get the boy down.

Which must mean he is not dead inside it
How on earth did the thing suddenly come to a halt??
Fox News is reporting the kid’s brother says he may have fallen out at some point. However, there aren’t any visible holes or breaks in the fabric of the ‘passenger compartment’, which may well be a separate compartment from the helium portion. They also reported that a witness said they thought they saw something fall out.
If he had fallen out, there would be some evidence of that, such as a hole in the gondola somewhere, but there is no sign of a breach.
Four!
Sure, they did crazy things, but I never taught them to lie to seek media attention.
So where has this 6 year old been during this whole ordeal?
I’m just tuning in... did anyone actually see the boy inside the balloon?
Depends on why they went on the show. But, it is weird.
Agreed... he may have fallen out early, and fallen unseen. That would still make it a wonder to me that the balloon came down so early. It must have been very leaky, if so.
Only can wait to see. I do hope that he isn’t still in the balloon, dead, and all are waiting for the hubbub to die down before taking him out.
If this is a hoax by Dad, sentence Dad to cleaning up road kill for the next 5 years. If it's a hoax by the kids, make them wear underwear on their heads for 6 months.
How could have simultaneously been in the balloon and released the tether at the same time?
Looking at it on the DVR it looked like rotor wash from at least two choppers. Watch the ground swirls as the craft is landed.
Someone gonna get a whuppin’
Fell right after it took off. Hopefully his weight held it low and he is ok, just lost, but my guess is he is injured or worse. Pray.
The way that ballon was tilting, he might have fallen out. Too me it seems the rescue folks were not trying to get to the compartment and knew there was no one inside.
We will know more soon.
I could see a little kid making an ill-conceived, but desperate, attempt to “jump for it” over a lake or something.
He's probably too young to think this up, but he ought to pretend he's taking a nap, so his parents can find him like this.
Victim’s advocates with the child’s family. No interpretation whether that is good or bad.
I dont see how he could have been in it either. Maybe he is hiding because he let the thing loose.
>>Retraction - rescue vehicles not leaving.<<
Looks like they’re waiting for the doughnut truck.
Not sure but one side was deflated and hanging down. I was actually wondering if it could turn upside down while in the air!
Anxious to hear ‘where’ the child is. They said it went on for two hours, he could have fallen out.
