Rescuers are tracking and chasing a "homemade flying saucer" that is in flight with a 6-year-old, by himself, on board.
The incident started this morning in Fort Collins when the boy got into the balloon-like device, which was built by an adult, and it came loose from a tether, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The contraption could rise as high as 10,000 feet, the sheriff's office said.
The home-made flying saucer was last seen in flight over Weld County.
The sheriff's office is working the Federal Aviation Administration to determine how to best get the boy down.
The homemade airplane was tethered in Fort Collins when the boy got onboard and it floated away. (Lisa Ecklund via 9News)

Shep doesn’t realize that 8,000 doesn’t mean above the Colorado landscape, it is above mean sea level.

You have to remember that a helicopter is orbiting this thing to give you a picture. Relative motion when the copter is going in the opposite direction of the balloon’s path will make it appear to be moving faster than it’s actual speed.

Guy on the ground says it is circling..not going in a straight line..its decending its at 500 feet..and they wont show people live as its landing (on this live link, channel 9). They wont show it until they are sure the kid is safe.
I dont know what fox will show..but this channel wont be showing it.

The balloon has descended to approximately 3000 ft, they believe.

This thing isnt a foot over 3k right now, I dont care what the news is reporting
Remember this is near Denver. The ground is at 5,280 feet. To be at 3k it would need to be 2,000 feet under ground.
