On September 10th of this year the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) posted a press release informing the world that “from October 19-25, more than 60 network TV shows [will] spotlight the power and personal benefits of service,” and that this “unprecedented block of TV programming is the first wave of a multi-year ‘I Participate’ campaign.”

Ah yes, lots of fun watching that show when I was a kid.

An ammo locker sits where by TV used to.

You should copyright that and sell bumper stickers, t-shirts, etc.

"My ammo locker sits where my TV used to"

Outstanding!

I’ve got no problem with volunteerism. From coaching little league to serving on the league board to working with church youth and going on mission trips...the list would be pretty long.

And I’m sure most of us are doing or have done much the same. But we volunteer because we want to and we get something out of it. (Coaching 3rd and watching my son slide under the tag with his 2nd triple of the day got me more out of the job than I ever put into it).

I think it’s rubbed off on my kids; my other son spends his Wednesday afternoons after school at the church food pantry helping distribute food.

So encouraging Americans to volunteer is not a bad thing. EXPECTING them to do so, for the STATE, is an entirely different matter.

I guess we can truly say Welcome to THE University of Oklahoma in the Reddest of the Red States where we had none of that on the Soonervision. I cannot even imagine the boo’s that would have happened here if Obama or any of his Administration had appeared on the big screen. They would have heard it all the way in DC. I was at the game Saturday afternoon and broadcast on ABC. Don’t know what ABC showed but in the stadium we had zero, zip, nada of Obama!

This is Red State Oklahoma where even the Democrats are Conservative. Cannot even fathom the firestorm that would have set off. OU has a weekend in the spring where students go all over the area to volunteer in the community — The Big Event gives back to the area. Then we have the Josh Heupel #14 Foundation which helps kids and families at Thanksgiving and through the year. Last we gave almost $80,000 at the game for his Foundation.

Oklahomans have been giving back without anyone telling us for years. Last thing I want to see is Obama on Soonervision — think our Athletic Program is smarter then that because big donors who did NOT support Obama are in attendance.

I confess a weakness for Da Vinci’s Inquest on the Sleuth channel, Breaking Bad on AMC, Damages on FX, Masterpiece Mystery (and Masterpiece Theatre, etc.) on PBS and 24 on Fox broadcast. Nat Geo, the Discovery Channel family, the Military channel, Animal Planet, Science channel, NASA, Hallmark, Outdoor channel and a number of others all offer good programming.

But for several years I watched none of those and only watched FNC, too. It’s still our primary “home” channel, but we do take advantage of other stuff we’re already paying for.

We’re not TV “snobs” who are “above” watching TV and brag about it as though we’re too smart or too cool to watch it.

I agree with your post 100%. I read the memo and IF I didn’t suspect that big gov’t had a hidden agenda, I would have no problem at all with the initiative. It’s not a bad thing to educate via netowrk TV the importance of helping in your community. The devils in the details and I suspect this may be part of something that is not so wholesome.

Good advice about the kids. They need to step away from their game boards, TV screens, computer screens, iPods and DVD players, go outside and DO something! MOVE! Kids have turned into a bunch of soft, uncoordinated wusses.

Lots of programs accept the anti-white male advertising. If we would rise up and object as one loud voice to both the broadcaster AND the product manufacturer, we could stop it.

I stopped watching network TV years ago. ABCNBCCBS, collectively know as DNC TV, are too political and too much to the left for me.

Digital tv ushered in all sorts of power. DVD players can lock out the ability to change chapter, fast forward, etc.

No reason you tv can’t “block” changing the channel or lowering the volume should the digital signal be sent.

Time to pull our some movies worth viewing another time.

I suggest John Carpenter's They Live.

Television Host: The feeling is definitely there. It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Yes they certainly do.

Good? They are consistently at the bottom in taste tests.

Even I make better burgers, and I had my kids convinced that the smoke alarm was a dinner bell!
