Atlas Shrugs: Doctors ‘Going Galt’
Human Events ^ | October 13, 2009 | Ralph R. Reiland

The headline in Investor’s Business Daily, Sept. 16, 2009: “45% of Doctors Would Consider Quitting If Congress Passes Health Care Overhaul.”

The headline in the Boston Globe, Sept. 28, 2009: “States risk it, raise tax on rich.”

The problem with four of nine U.S. doctors saying they “would consider leaving their practice or taking an early retirement” is that “the number of doctors is already lagging population growth,” reports IBD.

Add millions of new patients to a shrinking supply of doctors and the obvious result is an English-style queue, longer waits in pain, and a centrally directed rationing of service.

That Boston Globe article on soaking the rich explains that New York’s increased confiscation of income from the “deep-pocketed rich” through higher taxes is producing a “millionaires’ exit.”

Said New York’s lieutenant governor, Richard Ravitch, regarding the flight of the state’s millionaires and the decline in government revenues that has already occurred as a result of the higher tax rates: “People aren’t wedded to a geographic place as they once were.”

In Atlas Shrugged, a novel by Ayn Rand, the most productive and creative citizens in the United States -- the innovators, risk-takers, artists, entrepreneurs, capitalists, intellectuals, industrialists -- overturn the conventional concept of victimhood and go on strike, refusing any longer to be exploited by society, refusing to be demonized as too successful, too rich, too individualistic, too free.

Led by John Galt, the novel’s hero, the industrious organize a strike against the ever-expanding yoke of government coercion. They strike to halt the murder of man’s spirit, to halt the confiscation of man’s work, to defend individualism, reason, liberty, human achievement and the market economy.

They will start drafting doctors I guess. This is not a government that smiles on personal freedom.

My family doctor, who I am seeing today, has already said that he will retire (prematurely) if this passes.
My good friend, who is my age (50), has already said that he will quit rather than submit.

They can’t quit! We have a constitutional right to health care don’t we?

When the government is the sole source of student loans, who can guess what the terms will be for medical students?

I know a couple of doctors as well who plan to retire early.

Who’s going to go through the effort and expense of College, Medical School, Residency just to become a government employee? This 0bama crap sandwich still leaves them subject to bogus lawsuits, because heaven forbid we address tort reform.

NHS doctors go to the schools that the Government chooses. They go into the specialty (most are GPs though) that the Government chooses. They are required to practice where the Government tells them they are needed. The citizens pay for all this through their taxes. Americans are accustomed to having their freedom to choose all of these things. Why would many people choose to be owned by the Government? There will be a dearth of American doctors after the mass retirement. We will be cared for by foreigners who didn't go to medical school here. And we will have to wait days or weeks to be seen at all. Call your Senators and Reps now! We do not want Socialized Medicine in our great country!

Draft? How about repealing the 13th amendment for people with medical degrees. Who are they to withhold their skills from the Collective?

I will repost a reply I posted to another post about the Baucus plan:
My husband is a physician seeing almost exclusively elderly Medicare patients. He is over 60 years old now and expecting to practice for another 10 years.
If this proposal on the cuts and then freeze of Medicare payments actually goes through, there will be between 700 and 800 patient visits that will not be made in nursing homes in Alabama per month because he will retire and then will be receiving his share of Social Security payments which will cost the government (aka taxpayers) even more money. Way to go, Bobby Bright, Obama, Max Baucus and the rest of you RATS.

Do they really think that the Obameinfuhrer will let them withhold their valuable skills from the proletariat...errr....I mean, government...no...I meant The People...yeah...that’s what I meant...The People?

There will be a Doctor Draft in the future to insure that they do their patriotic duty. Oh yeah. Nothing but the best possible medical care from doctors who are slaves!

I am aware of many Internists and Family Practice doctors who feel the exact same way. They refuse to part with their hard earned money to fund Obama’s Nanny state affairs. Paying for Illegals and all this other cra! while p!ssing all over America and Americans.

The population will be adjusted to match the number of doctors available.

Google, The Doctor’s Plot. Communists always had a special hatred for doctors. Especially Jewish doctors.

That’s the thing that most leftist sheep are blind about - someone will have to “hold the whip” in order to “cooperate” with their plan.

The leftist “shepherds” already know this, however. They envision themselves holding the whip.

Draft? Your funny.

If that were to happen, I contend that many doctors, majority of which in the United States are from foreign countries and trained in the United States would simply move to another country or return to their native country where they have support and family and would shaft the American financial system by never repaying their loans.

The “villains” of the fascist Visitors in ‘V’ were the doctors, as well.

I know it’s fiction, but it demonstrates anyone with special knowledge is always a threat to the elitists in power.
