MRC's Bozell Demands CNN, MSNBC Source Racist Charges Against Limbaugh
NewsBusters ^ | October 13, 2009 | Staff

Posted on 10/13/2009 1:46:29 PM PDT by kingattax

Media Research Center President Brent Bozell today demanded that CNN and MSNBC prove that radio talk show king Rush Limbaugh uttered a racist quote they have attributed to him as fact after Limbaugh publicly denied having ever said, “Slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back. I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark” on his nationally syndicated airwaves.

"CNN and MSNBC must immediately and publicly source when Limbaugh uttered this phrase. He has unequivocally denied it. Now it is up to the same news media that reported it as fact to prove that it was, indeed, stated," NewsBusters Publisher Bozell insisted in a statement, arguing that if the charges are undocumentable, the offending networks are "100% guilty of character assassination."

The accusations against Limbaugh came in the wake of reports the radio talk show host is part of a group bidding for ownership of the St. Louis Rams NFL franchise. The full Bozell statement is appended below the page break:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓ CNN and MSNBC must immediately and publicly source when Limbaugh uttered this phrase. He has unequivocally denied it. Now it is up to the same news media that reported it as fact to prove that it was, indeed, stated.

The MRC has overnighted letters to senior executives at both cable networks demanding that they take this sourcing seriously and report back to the public. We await their word.

Either Rush Limbaugh is lying or these networks – willfully or not – are participants in the worst form of character assassination imaginable. They can prove their innocence by documenting this accusation. If they can’t, then they are 100% guilty of character assassination.

Tomorrow we will go public with their response

From a quick scan, sounds like some dim bulbs have pee peed in their own mess kit.

Ihope Rush pops them hard!

On his show today, Rush said his staff traced the comment back to an entry made 8 years ago on Wikipedia that is/was labeled “under dispute” or “unconfirmed” or something like that. I don’t use Wiki so I’ve never read the entry.

Wikipedia is crawling with leftists who seem to have nothing else to do except scrub out anything remotely conservative. You'd think they would use some of their Copious Free Time™ to clean this thing out too, but in their world, anything bad about a conservative is automatically true. No source needed.

Anyone who uses Wiki as a source is automatically lame.

ALL Conservatives are racist, donchaknow??? /s

Even if this isn’t an actual quote from Rush Limbaugh, “we” (leftists) all know that he has made countless other racist comments over the years, because he is a RACIST, just like ALL Conservatives.

Rush has lawyers and Judges in his family. I am sure he does not lack for advise if he needs it.

That's just it. Wikipedia is NOT a source of anything, in the first place. But more than that, its very design makes it unusable in citations. What good is a citation if the reference that it points to is not stable?

Wikipedia is a source of amusement, nothing more. You want a source citation, you can get the Encyclopedia Britannica online.

Limbaugh spoke about this at length on his program today.

The anonymous source is a Wikipedia posting (FIGURES!) claiming the statement was made in 1998!

So the media is swallowing info from Wiki, where FReepers fear to tread.

Limbaugh has sent letters demanding that every speaker (spreader) of this slander document its source, or issue an apology and retraction.

CNN and MSNBC are shameless race-baiters. We all know this.

But because Rush "illustrates absurdity by being absurd", he confuses some people who can't tell the difference between his satire and his real beliefs.

Some of his reputation with the mainstream media is his own fault. Frankly I could do with a lot less satire from Limbaugh ( and Beck ) and a lot more coherent and straightforward talk.

I am Asian and I am anti-communist.

Hell, all the Asians I know are anti-communist — even the communists.

Rush’s lawsuit could start the meter running for these bastards and that’s a good thing.

Gulfstream, the top of the line luxury jet maker is working on the new Gulfstream G650, I bet Rush would really enjoy having those networks buy one for him.

I don’t know if he’ll sue if they fail to meet his demand, but I hope he does.

He needs to sue even if they do retract their statements, if the media already sufficiently poisoned the well for support of his buying an NFL franchise.

The showed clear malice by trying to derail his plans to buy a team with their reporting of false quotes. What good is retracting the story if they still succeeded in stopping the deal? That's like politicians returning tainted donations after the election, after the money has served its purpose.

Limbaugh needs to sue for damages regardless of what the media does.

Are you watching, Rush?

It's Matthew's wet dream that Rush would actually watch his drivel-show.

Or anybody else, for that matter.

Checked your ratings lately, Chrissy??

LOL!

I am somewhat of a Cival War buff and also a long time Rush listener. The concept of the south being safer during slavery is:
1. Absurd unless you ignore the atrocities committed against black slaves. To believe this statement you have to believe that the safety of black folks is not part of the equation. This kind of thinking was prevalent in Democrat circles before, during, and after the war because these people convinced themselves that black folks were less than human. They pardoned the barbarity committed against blacks as they clung to this racist notion (as many Democrats still do today).
2. Not at all a concept that Rush endorses. Rush has always stated that part of his pride in America is rooted in the fact that 600,000 men died in a war to end slavery.
3. A fabricated quote spread by the left and attributed to Rush in an attempt to distract and mislead the folks who would most benefit from a clear understanding of American history and conservatism.

My daughter is in third grade, and one of the conditions of her writing reports, etc. is that students CANNOT use wiki as a source!!! Elementary, my dear Watson, and yet these doofuses in the MSM treat it as if it were canon!! LOL! Boy, are their collective faces going to be red when they get slapped with multiple lawsuits!

And Rush has the bucks to drag this out for years—do they?
