Obama Spoofs: ‘SNL’ Chooses Unfunny Over Hurting Their Guy
Big Hollywood ^ | Oct. 12, 2009 | Andrea Shea King

Big Hollywood’s Alexander Marlow has written a spot-on assessment of “Saturday Night Live’s” skit about Obama. This video clip of Chevy Chase on CNN bolsters Marlow’s claim and reveals the truth behind “SNL’s” political parodies:

VIDEO: Chevy Chase Admits SNL is a Left-wing Show

To paraphrase Groucho Marx, a child of five could improve on this immensely. Anyone could make these parodies of Obama funnier. Obama’s mannerisms, speech patterns, physical oddities (ears) etc. are ripe for satire. Add Michelle Obama and Joe Biden to the mix and it only gets better. The audience would be rolling in the aisles. Obama presents a comedy writer with the potential for endless comedic situations. Obama is a unique character who offers a buffet of satire, pregnant with possibilities.

Imagine the political influence Saturday Night Live has had over its 30-year run...

Their heart just isn’t in putting down their guy. Totally understandable. I’m not much interested in putting down those who are dear to me.

Chevy Chase is a spoiled brat and a meathead.

BTW, his real first name is “Cornelius.” Nice, huh?

SNL’s influence today is much less than it used to be decades ago. They want the sheep to believe it has decisive power. While the Palin character assasination certainly shaped the view of braindead liberals, it was not the “game changer” of the election. The GOP lost because of McCain and the Obama hype. The MSM just loves to rub salt into wounds and fancy themselves as uber-powerful.

This, from a man who hasn’t done, or said, *anything* funny, in over two decades.

Why not a skit about "The Fresh Prince of Bill Ayres"?

Or how about a skit showing the Obama war room, where Obama has no time to spend on Afganistan, Iraq, Iran, Al-Qaeda, but instead works deligently attack FoxNews and Tea-partiers?

How about really mocking Obama for getting the Nobel Prize instead of making him look rationale and humble. Obama is not humble, he is arrogant.

You could make fun of his over reliance on teleprompters. You can make fun of him being an attention-whore. There are dozens of ideas. Who the heck are these idiot writers????

With the Nobel Peace Prize going to Obama just days after SNL's scathing done "jack" and "squat" exposé, SNL got a goldmine, and all they managed to dig out was pyrite.

Their skit of Obama winning the lottery was weak and unfunny.

In the past few years I usually fast forwarded thru the political stuff and news and just would watch a few of the skits where they parodied other TV shows, or did some non threatening offbeat comedy. I would get a few laughs from it, especially when they did impersonations of celebrities.

This season on SNL however, the few bits I have seen have just not been funny at all. The writers obviously don’t have their hearts in it. When I don’t laugh once in a skit then forget it. I guess I won’t bother watching at all anymore.

Did anyone assume it was anything but politically motivated from the start?

“While the Palin character assasination certainly shaped the view of braindead liberals, it was not the “game changer” of the election. The GOP lost because of McCain and the Obama hype. “

I completely agree. The Tina Fey thing was mean spirited and while it hurt, it wasn’t a fatal blow. What hurt is McCain didn’t have a strong political identity. Was McCain liberal? conservative? libertarian? the average voter didn’t know for sure. But they did know McCain seemed even older than his years. That pushed moderates into the Obama camp.

This phenomenon started as soon as Zero was the likely choice. The late night comedians weren’t ridiculing Zero, they said he just wasn’t funny. Whenever Obama was mentioned in a joke on The Tonight Show or Late Night, he wasn’t the object of the joke. While watching Leno in the run-up to the election I would sit and keep track of McCain ‘old’ jokes. Usually 5-7 in one monologue. Even after Zero was anointed on November 8th, it was still all McCain all the time. For months there were McCain ‘old’ jokes. They just COULDN’T slam their Messiah. Big Media (including news, late night, SNL, etc.) is responsible for the mess we are now in. They should all be sued for fraud.

I have had Lefty friends ‘quote’ Palin but they were really quoting Fey. They didn't know the truth. No surprise. Stupid Libs. "Palin said she could see Russia from her porch".....No, that would be Tina Fey.

Sounds like a great opportunity for Fox.
Fair and balanced.

If SNL won’t do it, maybe South Park will. Nothing is sacred there.

To the libs -
“I thought you enlightened liberals considered yourselves smarter than everyone else. Why are you quoting a comedian and claiming that it’s a quote from a politician?”

The legendary manager of the Philadelphia Athletics (and grandfather of a former senator with the same name), Connie Mack, was actually named Cornelius.

The general who beat Hannibal at the battle of Zama was a Cornelius too, but it wasn't his first name.

Long way from “Chevy.”

I remember reading about the Battle of Zama.

Connie Mack was one helluva man.

Mr. Chase is a poor excuse for one. He’s a mite self-absorbed and supercilius. Poor thing.

Ummm ... it means that they have given up on him. They have no heart for mocking him or praising him. They want him to go away, and new material to appear.

SNL, 60 minutes, Dan Rather, Jon Stewart ... all the mockers all the time. G-d mocks them! G-d’s humor can be very black humor, too. They may not survive it.
