Sima Samar, women's rights activist in Afghanistan: "With dogged persistence and at great personal risk, she kept her schools and clinics open in Afghanistan even during the most repressive days of the Taliban regime, whose laws prohibited the education of girls past the age of eight. When the Taliban fell, Samar returned to Kabul and accepted the post of Minister for Women's Affairs."
Ingrid Betancourt: French-Colombian ex-hostage held for six years.
"Dr. Denis Mukwege: Doctor, founder and head of Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo. He has dedicated his life to helping Congolese women and girls who are victims of gang rape and brutal sexual violence."
Handicap International and Cluster Munition Coalition: "These organizations are recognized for their consistently serious efforts to clean up cluster bombs, also known as land mines. Innocent civilians are regularly killed worldwide because the unseen bombs explode when stepped upon."
"Hu Jia, a human rights activist and an outspoken critic of the Chinese government, who was sentenced last year to a three-and-a-half-year prison term for 'inciting subversion of state power.'"
"Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China's communist system. He now lives in the United States."
This act has devalued the award. I don’t think that even Obama himself expected to get it.
This is an outrage. Barry ought to be embarrassed and give it back.
Don’t forget Billy Jeff Clinton. He always coveted a Nobel to help hide the DNA stains on his legacy. Poor egoist must be seething with rage at all the all the ridiculous accolades heaped on Obama that could have been his were his libido lower and his melanin higher.
O didn’t expect it, but feels it’s well deserved.
I don’t think Obama expected it either.
I heard a story that somebody called the White House press office early this morning, asking for reaction, and the very first White House press people reaction was wondering if it was like an April’s fool joke. They were caught flat footed.
Hey, what can we expect when the same prize was passed over a woman who put herself in bodily-harm’s way aiding Jews in Nazi Germany for some attention-starved guy who made a slide-show (Al Gore)?
Devalued? I don’t think so. I just wiped my butt this morning with some of that ‘Nobel Peace Prize’ award certificate stuff this morning...
Obama is incapable of embarassment.
It was already devalued by passing over Irena Sendler for Al Gore’s fiction.
Few things really surprise me.
Obama winning the Nobel prize for doing absolutely NOTHING did.
Even Mike Steele can hit this ball out of the park
“What has President Obama actually accomplished? It is unfortunate that the presidents star power has outshined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights. One thing is certain - President Obama wont be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action.” - Steele
BTW Tim Pawlenty who wants us to vote for him for President says “the “appropriate response is to say congratulations” .”.
Think the egomaniac will mention a single one of them when he accepts his major award?
The ‘rats have no shame.
Amazingly this idiot award draws even more attention to the fact the man is an empty suit.
If this was a serious prize for serious people, awarded by serious people, there are names on that list who anyone would agree are worthy of recognition.
BOR just said the NPC are dopes....
This is an outrage. Barry ought to be embarrassed and give it back.

Embarassed? Obama??????? Nahhhhhhhhh. No such animal. He’s allll EGO. He couldn’t even remember what the United States of America IS and HAS DONE in his ‘speech’.
Yes, he should give it back. But he’s not that kind of a man.
Let us hope that he keeps it and shows the world what a farce this has all become.
Also, giving it back would make people swoon, and the idol worship would only increase.
Any one of the other nominees deserved it more, and could’ve used the money to further their causes.
Ingrid Betancourt can go without as well.
