Comment: absurd decision on Obama makes a mockery of the Nobel peace prize
(London) Times ^ | October 9, 2009 | Michael Binyon

The award of this year’s Nobel peace prize to President Obama will be met with widespread incredulity, consternation in many capitals and probably deep embarrassment by the President himself.

Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent. It was clearly seen by the Norwegian Nobel committee as a way of expressing European gratitude for an end to the Bush Administration, approval for the election of America’s first black president and hope that Washington will honour its promise to re-engage with the world.

Instead, the prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace.

The pretext for the prize was Mr Obama’s decision to “strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples”. Many people will point out that, while the President has indeed promised to “reset” relations with Russia and offer a fresh start to relations with the Muslim world, there is little so far to show for his fine words.

Come 10:30, Obama could rock the political world and defuse the cult of personality charges by declining the prize. “While I am honored by my selection, it is a career-crowning achievement, while my career has barely begun. We have planted the seeds of peace and both hope and believe that they will flourish, but America does not exist in a vacuum. Therefore, while humbled, I must decline this honor until such time as the tree of peace bears fruit, and would be grateful to be considered if they do.”

This could happen in an alternative universe.

That’s exactly what I’ve been saying. The Nobel committee jumped the shark years ago. This just makes it patently obvious even to those not paying attention.

The world is a much more dangerous place with this arrogant, self-aggrandizing, America-hating ignoramus. Pathetic and depressing to say the least.

That takes care of the committee but what do you have to say about PFL BO?

There *IS* an Ignoble Prize Ceremony at Harvard every year.

Cheers!

In other news, Harvard has selected an incoming freshman with pretty good SAT scores and exceptional letters of recommendation as this year’s valedictorian.

They give it to a lot of people who do not deserve it.

This is an odd thing because Obama:

1. Has never held a leadership position until recently, never authored legislation, and never led a great humanitarian drive.

2. He has been president a mere 9 months, and in that time he has had nothing passed, nothing finalized, and nothing won.

3. Even with “nukes” he’s dealt on the basis of talk.

Therein are the major criteria for the Nobel Peace Prize.

“WTF is the Nobel Committee thinking?”

Barack Hussein Obama, m.m.m. represents the success of liberalism’s deepest and dearest wishes simply by existing.

I’ve never been so convinced that liberalism is a worldwide mental disorder and menace, and should be shunned and outlawed in order to protect world civilization.

I have no idea what we can do, but we can start by cleaning out our own houses.

Here’s an idea. Friends with a liberal? Don’t be. They’re either in league with those who are trying to destroy our country, or so hopelessly stupid and delusional that they don’t see what’s going on. However much they pride themselves in being the shining moral compass of the modern world they are, in fact, just the opposite. Not eating cows doesn’t make up for killing babies. Shun them and if they ask you why don’t hesitate to tell them.

Don’t support their places of business. Don’t buy insurance from them. Don’t buy food from them. Don’t buy anything from them. They’ll try and take every penny they can from you by Governmental edict, but they’ll do that ANYWAY. Don’t give them a penny you don’t have to.

Don’t be silent. Find out your kid is having to recite a daily hymn to our Dear Leader? Raise hell. Don’t be afraid that the school administration will hate you. Hate them back with equal fervor, and let them know they work for YOU, not the other way around (a message most of our lame-ass politicians STILL haven’t gotten).

Sorry for the rant. This wasn’t directed at your comments, ThunderSleeps. :-).

Carter won one for his disaster of a presidency for “peace talks” (i.e. appeaser), and Yassir Arafat also (apeasee) , and that should speak volumes on the credibility, or lack thereof, of the nobel prize committee for the past few decades. To be fair, it’s also worth noting that there are five nobel prizes; “Physics”, “Chemistry”, “Medicine”, and “Literature”, that are overseen by the Swedes, and the fifth one (yes, as in fifth column), is for “Peace”, which is overseen by the Norwegians, and is as much a joke to the other nobel committees as our 9th Circus Court of Appeals is to the rest of our judicial system.

So if they (the Norwegian Nobel Committee) are giving them away to obvious idiots, it begs the question...Who’s running the committee?

Currently...
Thorbjørn Jagland - 1 yr degree in economics, started his political life at age 16 by joining the communist group “Wokers Youth League”, which he later went on to run, then went into politics under the “Labour” party.

So.......a marxist gives a prize to another marxist. Whodathunkit.

I finally figured it out this morning after I heard the absurd news that Barack Obama was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize:

We have Forrest Gump living in the White House!!!

The Big O is in good company—Al Gore, Jimmy Carter.

Jimmy at the time actually, you know, did something worthy of consideration -- I'm thinking of the Egypt/Israel peace talks. 0bama? naaaah.

This is an absurd award.

“I think Tom Delay deserves the Nobel Prize in Physics or Medicine for Dancing With The Stars with a stress fracture.”

This made me laugh out loud. I also like someone else’s comment about its like giving a Harvard PhD to a kid on his 10th day of kindergarten.

The Nobel Peace Prize has been a huge joke for years. I hope we get to see the stories of those that did not win but were nominated and contrast that with the ‘hope & change’ and all those good intentions that won it this time.

This is even worse than the Algore Nobel Prize. If the fix was in 2 weeks after the Zero took office, it was clearly a case of Bush Derangement Syndrome by the Nobel Committee. And what has Zero accomplished? What’s next, Zero being declared a diety? Actually “ascended being” would be the new age term, and some Kool Aid drinkers have pinned that term on Zero.

Does anyone have the list of 205 candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize?
I know Sarkozy was also on the list along with someone from Zimbabwe. Hu Jai’s nomination angered China, so....
