WASHINGTON - She's poised to become the best-selling author in the United States, has a devoted base of conservative supporters and is considered a front-runner to lead the Republicans into the next election in 2012 - and yet key party strategists are tormented by the popularity of Sarah Palin.
The very notion of a Palin candidacy has been derided in recent days by some of the brightest minds in the Republican party even as the former governor of Alaska outlines her policies on Afghanistan, energy and other issues of national importance.
"Were she to be the nominee, we could have a catastrophic election," Steve Schmidt, John McCain's presidential campaign manager last year, said recently.
He was backed by Mike Murphy, a Republican media consultant who also made a point of chastising Schmidt for his role in Palin's rise to international prominence to begin with.
"Steve Schmidt correct about Sarah Palin and '12," Murphy said by way of his Twitter feed. "Shame he didn't feel same way a year ago when he was lobbying McCain to choose her as VP."
John Weaver, McCain's closest political adviser for years, also weighed in earlier this week about a Palin candidacy.
"It would surely mean a political apocalypse is upon us," he said.
Yet from her unlikely pulpit - Facebook, and not the governor's office in Wasilla, Alaska - Palin is getting her message out on everything from health-care reform and energy while assailing President Barack Obama for his position on Afghanistan. Many of her 900,000-plus "friends" on the social networking site are cheering her every word.

Okay, it appears that most of the key Republicans it torments are campaign consultants who realize they now have a better chance of sprouting wings and flying than of working with her ever again and are now engaging in sour grapes.
And McCain's loss was not catastrophic?! Idiots.
I am so tired of having to vote for a Yale or Harvard graduate with a law degree in his or her hand. I want our country to be “governed” by someone who is holding our Constitution in their hand.
I’m still not settled on Palin, the elections are a long way off but I’m also not stupid and am sick of the way she’s been treated by these inside the beltway leeches.
They talk about experience as if it were a good thing that they have experience in screwing America over.
I did and found out that McCain and his cronies as well as a college professor don't think she could be a successful candidate. I really respect their opinion...NOT. Go Sarah!
Schmidt is cattily jealous of her pull with the average American.

And what the fundamental political battle is all about is Washington vs The Rest Of Us.
No "creature of Washington" can be expected to understand, much less appreciate, the deep, intense and genuine ire and disgust that exists outside the Beltway and the Boston-Washington corridor. And, if they can't understand the Republican base, how can they expect to mount a victorious Republican campaign?
Republican "strategists" are part of the Republican "problem".

I am not even sure she is even running for President in 2012. If Obama gets his way and all of his Communist policies are passed, no one can fix it by the time 2012 comes along, not Sarah, not anyone. One of the main reasons why I support her is that I am sick and tired of the way she is being treated. It’s one thing to be treated like this by Democrats, I expect that, but to be treated this way in HER OWN PARTY is downright disgusting. She gets trashed more from so-called Republicans then anyone else.

The ONLY reason I voted for mccain was that Sarah was his running mate.

She has done more hard work, hit 0bama harder on tough policy issues, and had her own policy ideas debated by more people(including 0bama who just can't seem to help replying to what Sarah Plain posts on her Facebook page), than any other Republican politician since she resigned. Funny thing is, she has managed to do all that without even one newspaper/TV/media interview. She is busy hitting 0bama hard, even while helping make the State Run Media irrelevant, and helping to drive e stake through the heart of the rotten media.

WOW,, arthurus, you’ve really hit the nail on the head, describing the elected DC republicans. We have a couple who may be run of the mill, hard working, investing, volunteering Republicans, but I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts not many of today’s elected Republicans can stand up to the rest of us. My belief is, the elected republicans in dc are far more interested in being relected and “LUV ED” by the democrats than they do about the interests of the people who’ve put them in dc. I understand there is something in the Potomac water that does something to conservatives in that area...they all become democrat lite.

They (her rino critics) seem to be afraid of her because she has the ability to bypass the usual route to the White House.
This route appears to include finishing second in one cycle to get the nomination, kissing ass to the East Coast Elites, and traveling the country for at least 15 years. This is the script that the rinos want her to follow. That way she can be of use for them, by keeping us rubes in line and giving them money so that they can keep nominating rinos to the senate, congress and state offices. She knows this, and she is not willing to play by those rules. That’s why I love her. I do feel that she is one of us, and she motivates me. The same can’t be said about the rinos.

I guess odumbo winning was not catastrophic enough for this failure of a campaign manager!!!
We should listen to these people. They said the same thing about Reagan, and we all know what a disaster that turned out to be...
