Gen. David H. Petraeus, the commander of American military forces in the Middle East, at the Newseum in Washington last week. He received a diagnosis of early-stage prostate cancer in February.
General Petraeus, 56, who as head of the United States Central Command oversees operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, underwent two months of radiation treatment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, which had minimal impact on his work schedule, according to the statement.
The statement was issued by the generals spokesman, Col. Erik O. Gunhus, in response to questions from The New York Times.
At the time of the treatment, the general was spending four or five days a week in Washington for policy reviews, the statement said. General Petraeus also took at least one overseas trip during the period of the treatment, and he was able to maintain his regimen of physical training, the statement said.
The treatment is assessed to have been successful, the statement said.
President Obama; Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.; Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates; Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton; Adm. Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and other top officials were informed of the initial diagnosis and treatment, the statement said.
The general did not disclose the information until now because he and his family considered the situation a private matter and it did not interfere with the performance of his duties, the statement said.

Oh no. Lifting the dear General up in prayer; thanking God for this man.
The post was sarcasm aimed at obama. It wasn’t serious.
I heard that as well. But making this public won’t hurt General Petraeus. It will have the opposite effect. It will enhance his stature with most of the American public.
Prayers going up right now!
Since you didn’t post it how do you know?

This says it all,,,
They gotta have a plan...;0)
God Bless General Petraeus...
Prayers for the general. He can beat it.
Hubby’s grandpa’s doc kept assuming that grandpa had prostate cancer when he was in his late 80s. He didn’t.
Prayers lifted for Gen. David H. Petraeus.
My apologies. He WAS being sarcastic, but it wasn’t aimed at obama. I just checked his backposts. He seems to be in, at least, partial agreement with the bam. Forgive my leap. I have just seen too many senseless fights picked over nothing.
This is a thread that should be serious for General Petraeus. I just didn’t want to see it turn into a flame war.
There was no place on this thread for his remark anyway.
Again. I apologize. Truly.
Prayers being said.
Group prayers for the General and positive thoughts in his direction can work wonders.
Good — it sounds like they caught it in time. Thank G-d.
U mite be rite. Works for me.
If they think Petraeus is gonna run, maybe some of the other oafs in office will develop a spine.
Clear the air now and watch the fireworks. Oh, goody.
Bro wishes it coulda been his other general
Uh, uh, uh, could it maybe be because, uh, uh, IT’S PAID FOR BY THE GOVERNMENT FROM OUR TAX DOLLARS???
Fortunately this is one of the easier cancerous conditions to address, especially early.
Praying for Gen. Petraeus, and his family. I pray his treatments were completely successful and that it NEVER comes back!
