The relationship between President Barack Obama and the commander of Nato forces in Afghanistan has been put under severe strain by Gen Stanley McChrystal's comments on strategy for the war.

According to sources close to the administration, Gen McChrystal shocked and angered presidential advisers with the bluntness of a speech given in London last week.

The next day he was summoned to an awkward 25-minute face-to-face meeting on board Air Force One on the tarmac in Copenhagen, where the president had arrived to tout Chicago's unsuccessful Olympic bi

General Jones, is the former Commandant of the US Marine Corps. Sad but true. A politician in uniform.

I agree to a point, but the theater commander also has a higher responsibility. He must protect the soldiers under his command especially if the President ignores their welfare. He didn’t go over the line in London. He did his job. Watch for his resignation when Obama decides to play politics with the lives of our neighbor’s children.

He won't resign because he feels a leaders responsibility to these war fighters and the orders he has been given will get them killed.

If he has any principles, he should resign if he is not given the troops to achieve the mission. Having soldiers die needlessly in a war their government won't support is something that McCrystal should not be involved with. His resignation would do more to support the troops than remaining silent in a losing battle. His resignation could actually save lives because it would force the Administration to either go all in or get out. And such a resignation will gain the attention of the American people.

What is not being discussed is Congress’s refusal to have the general testify

I guess after General Petraeus being right about the surge in his testimony they don’t want the Afganistan strategy out in a public forum

As an American, I hope he retires; and he and his retired professionals lead us into a lock a load against Washington.

This may be for what some of us have been waiting. I know I have been.

Up until now, we have had no leadership/direction in this area.

I ask out of sincerity and ignorance: Does one believe some of our wonderful heroes don’t have a war plan ready involving us to help?

Just a thought.

You make a very reasoned argument, however I don’t think the General is dealing with a reasonable individual. I think the General is doing what he thinks gives the men and women under his command their best chance for success.

If he does resign, it will be such a huge story that the MIA media in this Country will have to cover. I would expect at the same time to see Generals Petreaus and Odierno resign in protest. I would love to see one of the three resign and tell Obama that I will see you in the 2012 election — won’t happen but I can dream!

There is an article floating around that says Gen Petreaus no longer has much of a voice at the Security meetings in the White House. President Bush used to have him brief for 20-30 minutes and now he just sits there. I was reading it last night while looking for info for a blog.

That's typical passive/aggressive behavior. The eyes go down before the decision to finish off your opponent. It will never be a toe to toe, face to face fight. The knock out blow will be delivered by an aide or another general, but not by the One. That's a telegraphed punch, Ma'am.

Does anyone else wonder if Barry is sending valuable military information to his friends in the Taliban so that they are able to know troop movement and therefore set up ambushes? Lets face it, he’s the enemy within, so anything is possible in that regard.

What's in Barry's ear? A teleprompter?

President Obama refused Friday to commit to more troops or a draw-down in Afghanistan. He's not ready to address it yet. He believes we must show great patience on Afghanistan, however we must hurry up on health care reform because people are dying.

That is the understatement about the year about Jones — from what I can find the Marines that served under him didn’t like him — kind of like Weasley Clark.

Zero is throwing the US military under the bus. Soon, everyone, but Zero and his Socialist Czars, will be under the bus including our country, our freedom, and our children and grandchildrens’ futures.

Thank RATs in the US Congress; We The People will Neuter them in 2010!

I wish I could agree, but I don’t think the MSM would give any resignations much play.
