I reread an extraordinary interview Polanski gave to the novelist Martin Amis in 1979, the year after Polanski went on the run.
The interview originally appeared in Tatler and is collected in Amiss excellent book Visiting Mrs Nabokov. Heres a section of the first quote it contains from Polanski.
If I had killed somebody, it wouldnt have had so much appeal to the press, you see? But fing, you see, and the young girls. Judges want to f young girls. Juries want to f young girls. Everyone wants to f young girls!
Thirty years have passed since Polanski said those words, so hes had time to reconsider them. Whether hes actually done so, we dont yet know. Perhaps he still thinks its true that everyone fancies little girls, and that the press was exaggerating the enormity of his crime, and that all this somehow excuses his behaviour.
Later in the interview, Polanski says he likes Paris, to which hed fled, because its very grown-up.
Unlike the 13-year-old girl with whom he admitted having unlawful sex.

Just a guess... money & fame.
2banana response:
But
shooting, you see, and the sick sexual pedophile perverts. Judges want to shoot sick sexual pedophile perverts. Juries want to shoot sick sexual pedophile perverts. Everyone wants to shoot sick sexual pedophile perverts!
yep...
The early stories (the first one that Drudge linked to) said that Polanski often went to Switzerland on vacation. And I doubt that someone so famous sneaked in and out without being noticed. So, no question, they had some reason for doing it now.
My theory is that they did it, not to please Obama, but to embarrass him and maybe set him at odds with his Hollywood supporters. I notice that Obama, always fast to interject himself into hot stories, hasn't uttered a peep about this one.
What can he say? "Justice must be done"? or, "Polansky is a genius--stop persecuting him!" I wish some reporter would ask Obama's opinion about this case and whether he thinks that Holder should recuse himself from influencing the case since he is a close associate of one of Polanksy's lawyers.
“I hope this thing harms hollywoods reputation even more”
I worked in the studios years ago. They don’t care, because they live in their own little world, and they have the money to buy their own reality.

Of course it is; Hollywood is a snakepit on par with the red-light district of Bangkok.
I am sure that most of the actresses who signed the petition to free the Polanski pervert paid their dues on the casting couch themselves when they were young. Maybe it's a fraternity hazing thing-- I got mine when I was your age, and now I'm going to see to it that you do too.
John Couey agrees with him.
Well said.
Here’s to hoping he dies a very slow and painful death.... is that wrong?
Excellent points there.
I’m waiting for the inevitable Q&A with Herr Gibbs in the White House Press Room,
Reporter: “Will Attorney General Eric Holder recuse himself from any involvement with the Roman Polanski extradition issue due to his close ties with Mr. Polanski’s legal team?”
Gibbs: “You’re not only a bunch of racists that attack people of color at the drop of a hat, you hate the Poles as well!”
Lyrics for Roman’s theme song;
Thank heaven for little girls
for little girls get bigger every day!
Thank heaven for little girls
they grow up in the most delightful way!
Those little eyes so helpless and appealing
one day will flash and send you crashin’ thru the ceilin’
Thank heaven for little girls
thank heaven for them all,
no matter where no matter who
for without them, what would little boys do?
Thank heaven... thank heaven...
Thank heaven for little girls!
Too true.
When Gibb’s stint is up, he can find a job in Hollywood.
Perhaps there are NEW child victims of this creep and the swiss are trying to “dispose” of the problem without taking the blame for the problem.
IOW Europeans having the USA do their dirty work.
OUCH!!!
You know, not for nothing, but if you're over 40, a 23 yr old is plenty young enough, if you can get one. At 23, they are definitely autonomous. Still very young and fresh, and totally legal. What's wrong with just nailing a 23 yr old???
I think it's a level of hubris that could possibly be satanic in its origin. I think these big shots get to feeling like they are supreme, that they are untouchable, that they can do whatever sick thing they want. I really feel like the Devil is at work in stuff like the Polanski case. He should be begging God for mercy.
It is a very sad thing that the father of some young girl didn’t ventilate this asshole’s brain.
When I was 13 I found 13-year-old girls beautiful and desirable.
That was normal, and it is also normal for an adult man not to lose the capacity to appreciate and desire such beauty.
There are two monstrous things about Polanski. The first is that his desires are disordered because he cannot see the object of his desire as a subject, as a human being; he is completely indifferent to her as a person, otherwise he could not have treated his victim so cruelly. The second is that he apparently cannot perceive himself as a moral agent embedded in a society to which he has responsibilities or obligations: he recognizes no distinction between what he wants to do and what he ought to do. (The second does not imply the first; even utterly selfish people don’t necessarily want to drug and sodomize 13-year-olds.)
